Tips you wish you had when you started

This kind of goes with thing you never thought about before you started. Only things learned the hard way that would have been nice to know before sarong or you would pass on to someone just getting ready to start since we have several that are still gearing up to start full time in our group.

My tip: Take it slow when you are downsizing and moving in! We did everything in 2 weeks- bought the RV, moved in, sold our stuff, etc.  It was 2 weeks of insanity!

One thing that helps me is definitely keeping it as simple as possible. When decluttering they say only keep things that are functional or beautiful to you well in a camper there's no room for the beautiful so now I try to keep only things I find functional AND beautiful. It makes it feel more mine and more homey since I don't have space for anything that's just pretty or special. The only exception is my two gnomes (one from grandma and one from great grandma) that serve no purpose but go outside when parked.

LOL! So many things I wish I would have known. I wouldn't know where to start! It helped to have a humorous approach to everything, including the first time I hooked up the water (the drain plugs were all off and it was snowing), or the first time I hooked up the sewer line. I wish I'd bought a tt that had a generator, and I wish the tanks were bigger so we could really park off-grid more. hmmm. I'll give this some more thought.

Practice flexibility, declutter. Get rid of just about everything. It is amazing what will come to the surface as important once full-timing.

HI Group :) We are thinking of going off grid in an RV or trailer until our simple home can be built. Just joined as I saw the group and thought maybe I could learn from you all!

Welcome onemoreontheway! We did travel with dh's job in our tt but are now parked up and will be moving onto our property soon while we build as well.

Something that was handy at first, but then turned out to be HOLYCOWTHANKGOODNESSIWATCHEDTHAT!!!!! was seeing the trailer backing videos. It's important to also watch the funny ones where professional rig drivers also get into a jam ;-)

The last backing adventure I had was on an icy driveway and I had to back through a one-lane driveway, around a cement gatepost, then a tree, and then a basketball hoop. It was, like, a 100-point turn. Really. Took over an hour! But, I did it. With no spotter. Go me!!

Welcome, onemore!
