Learn from my mistake...wear supportive shoes!!!

I have been wearing flip flops (other than when i am exercising) for quite awhile now b/c it is so hot here.  Today I realized that I have planar fasciitis....which is very annoying and painful.  The streches are helping, but I still am supposed to stay off my feet for a week (and I am at home with my 6 and 9 year old for the summer....like that is going to happen).

Anyway-- learn my from mistake and don't wear flip flops!!  irked.gif

Thank you!  Thankfully it feels better as the day goes on...but it is frustrating.  I shouldn't complain though, because this pregnancy has been a breeze so far.  It could be worse!!  I feel so badly for DandlyLez...I shoudln't be complaining about a silly foot.    :(

Do you think you got it bc you wore flip flops while pregnant? I live in flip flops. I always do. But perhaps I should be wearing sneakers more? My husband has plantar fascitis  - not fun. I bought him a foot brace to sleep in that keeps you foot flexed back - but he hated it and never made it through a night with it. You might have better luck with one though. My husband runs so I'm guessing his is related to that.

I hear you about complaining. I felt so whiny earlier - heartburn, restless legs, etc. But we struggled so much to get pregnant and I wanted so bady to be pregnant again. I'm trying to be thankful every day for the time with this baby inside me - even if it means being uncomfortable. It's easy to forget sometimes though!

I've noticed if I'm on my feet a lot I'm getting pretty swollen :-/ ... I never had any swelling issues during my last pregnancy. I also thought I should buy a pair of sneakers since I also live in flip flops, but they are just not cute! I tried! I even tried the sketchers store....

Hope your feet feel better! Maybe your kids will gie you an easy week wink1.gif

birkenstocks are my saviour! I have been wearing them almost constantly for a few years since my plantar fasciitis finally got better (other than the months when I it's too slippery- I have custom orthotics now for then). It took me months of physio the first time I got it (I got it from using an elliptical trainer combined with improper/cheap footwear most of the time, and also being overweight doesn't help). Then it came back because I didn't think I needed to worry about it and the second time it took many more months to treat successfully (like 6 months) and I got both the orthotics and started wearing birks and my life has been changed lol. I made it through the couch to 5k running program and then a 65lb weight gain during PG, and the pain didn't come back (for almost 3 years now).
Icing the bottom of the foot as well as rolling it over a bottle till you feel the muscles hurting/at the spot they hurt the most help a lot more than the stretches, and the strausberg sock (sp) that you sleep in did pretty much nothing for me.

on Amazon.com there are tons of cute shoes with the birkenstock flor (base)- papillion and birkies I believe are two popular brands. I get a pair or two ordered every time I visit the US because they are half the price there.

It's so funny you just posted this. I looked at dh on Saturday and said, "I need to get some comfy easy slip on shoes with some support soon—wearing these flip flops all the time is making my feet tired." I know that trodding around on thin foam all day can't be good. Thanks for the confirmation!

Luckily the stretches I found on-line seemed to have cured the problem. I also bought more supportive sandals. Thanks for all of the advice!! This group is great!!!!

Forgot to answer a question- Vegan- in my "research" it listed flimsy shoes as a common culprit and pregnancy as well.... My flip flops were very flimsy...but in all fairness i will admit that i bought another pair of flip flops, but they are very supportive (merrell brand). Lol

merrells are my next favourite, and my winter slip ons are merrills :) I think though they never gave me the feeling of being "cured" like the birks though.

I probably should try Birks....it's just that we have a Merrell outlet so I can get them so cheap..... My pain went away in 2 days....I feel like it was too good to be true.  I keep waiting for the pain to come back.  This evening I am wonderfing if my left foot is now hurting...
