Maybe it's because I haven't gained any weight yet, but, that seems fine with me! I don't want to blow up like I did with my other pregnancies! I'm getting to old for that, it will be too much work to get it off!
There's a lot of combos that you can eat as small meals that will also increase your protein. I have a hard time with this one as well -- I don't like feeling that I'm gnawing on meat all of the time. I actually downloaded the checklist from the Brewer diet page to try to "remind" me to be more aware of what I'm eating and to diversify a bit too. I printed out the list & also the categories examples, put them in a plastic cover, and put it on the fridge. I check each day's requirements off with a dry erase marker after each meal. Also, small meals are good. You really only need 300-500 more calories per day when you're pregnant, and even then that come more into play during the 2nd & 3rd tri. I'm trying to me mindful of what I gain as well. As long as you're sticking mostly to whole, clean food (produce, whole grains, lean meats, healthy fats) you'll be fine.
Dr. Sears also has a great nutrition class called LEAN Expectations that gives a nice overview of what to eat during pregnancy, how to gain appropriate weight, and how to lose it after (safely & while bf'ing). I'm a little biased on this because I actually teach the classes, but honestly they are just a nice base to go by.Very easy visuals - no tracking or calorie counting or anything.
ps - I haven't gained weight yet either at 10-weeks, and my midwife seems OK with it. We'll see where I'm at next week at my appointment & what she says.
Hope some of that helps. Obviously you've been through this before with happy, healthy babies, so I'm sure that most of this is just old news!
AFM - thanks for the info on the dip sticks. That's what I figured, but wasn't sure. I scheduled my first tri scan today for August 22. We've decided to do this one for peace of mind and for planning purposes. They were offering another blood test to go with it, but I declined that one. We'll do another at 20-weeks as required by my midwife, but that's it. I'm hoping that we'll get to hear the heartbeat next week at our appointment. I'll be almost 12 weeks by then, so hopefully it will get picked up. I remember having a hard time finding DS's heartbeat at an early appointment, but I know that I had and anterior placenta with him. One week -- I can't wait!
