I'm trying to get my daughter to nurse without the nipple shield, I usually offer 2-3 times throughout the day and sometimes she nurses without it for a few mins (YAY!!) and most of the time she needs it. I've noticed her latch is AWFUL when she's just on my nipple, it gets deformed like lipstick or smushed flat with a little ridge line down the middle, and sometimes it hurts to nurse. I don't see anything wrong from the outside and I try to do the boob sandwich thing.
Should I try to correct her latch right now, should I wait until we (hopefully) get completely off the nipple shield, and how do I go about correcting it? She's almost 4 months. Also, I work three days per week and on those days she uses the slow flow Breastflow nipples. If we try to correct the latch now should I have my mom try and do the same things with that nipple that I do with my own nipple? Or is a bottle just completely different?
I'm really, REALLY looking forward to the days where we can nurse in the Ergo and/or I don't have to sit in my special nursing spot and hold my boob the whole time to make sure she stays attached.
