feeling weird after eating, especially in the morning

Hey all, I'm 20 weeks. For the last week or so, I've been feeling odd after eating, particularly in the mornings after breakfast. Like, just exhausted, and full, even if I haven't eaten much. As if the act of eating just depleted me of all energy instead of giving me some. The feeling can last a few hours. I had a stomach bug with diarrhea last week, so am wondering if it's related (though no diarrhea anymore). Then I thought maybe it was related to having a lot of carbs or sugar with my breakfast (I often have oatmeal with a bit of brown sugar, a banana or other piece of fruit, and maybe a glass of milk); however, this morning I ate a bit of fruit and three scrambled eggs and felt the same. I've been drinking plenty of water, so I think I'm well-hydrated. Anyone experience the same thing? I don't remember feeling like this during my first pregnancy.

I dunno, 3 eggs AND fruit does sound like a lot of food to me! I'd feel funny after that too! Maybe you are eating too much?

Also, the other morning I grabbed a small bowl of cereal to hold me over until I finished a couple of outdoor chores (it's been 100 degrees here lately so i do outside stuff early!). By the time I got inside, made 3 scrambled eggs for DS and I to share, I COULD NOT eat for at least an hour. I had been starving 30 minutes earlier but I think the heat and maybe the work just made me feel sooooo full. It was weird. I just waited an hour or so and then at my second breakfast!

Are you working out or something before breakfast?

No working out or anything in the morning (and I live in the southern hemisphere, so it's cold here now). I have a fast metabolism, so am used to eating large meals to keep hunger at bay (and to keep my weight up)...but maybe this pregnancy has changed my metabolism somewhat and suddenly that IS too much food for my body to deal with at one time! I remember having to eat less but more frequently late in the third trimester in my last pregnancy to avoid feeling uncomfortably full...maybe I'm just reaching that point earlier with this pregnancy. Tomorrow I think I'll try two small breakfasts a couple of hours apart.

Well, I get this exact same feeling if I do not drink a very good deal of water before eating breakfast. If I drink *at least* 24 ounces of water before sitting down to breakfast I will feel this way.  It doesn't matter how well I hydrated the day before.  I had this feeling last pregnancy, but never was able to get rid of it.  Then I started a pretty regimented water schedule recently and that feeling completely went away.  On the days that I am rushed and don't drink that water, I always feel like crap and like I need to rest.  BTW, I generally eat little to no carbs at breakfast and altering what I ate made absolutely no difference with this feeling.  Good luck!!

That sounds awful! I have not felt the exhaustion after eating, but definitely get weird stomach feelings. Your digestion does slow down due to the hormones. I forget which ones, but it also contributes to indigestion. Slow digestion and relaxing of the flap that keeps everything in your stomach from coming back up your esophagus... Anyway.. Sometimes I have a hard time finishing breakfast but if I just wait a few min, I feel much better and can eat the rest. (my usual pre-pregnancy breakfast. Not trying to eat extra or anything.) I seem to have less trouble at lunch and dinner. I seem to be famished enough by then to eat anything.

Maybe try taking longer to eat or split it up into two smaller meals in the morning?

Hope you feel better soon!

Maybe that will help! I also have a super fast metabolism and usually eat every 2 hours or so. It's a hassle to make that many small meals but I feel much better than if I eat a giant one. I think our stomachs are already getting squished

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I've been making sure I'm well-hydrated before eating first thing in the morning, and I've been eating a little less at breakfast time, then an earlier lunch. It seems to help-- I'm feeling pretty much normal again. Maybe I've just finally fully recovered from whatever stomach virus I had.
