mei tai making help, please

I'm still a beginner at sewing, but I managed to make a ring sling with the pattern from the maya wrap website, and while it wasn't pretty, my baby never fell out. ;)

Now, I'd REALLY love to have a mei tai, but they're really expensive.  It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to make one, but I have a question.  I have this woven wrap: http://www.ellaroo.com/index.php/products/ellaroo_wrap.  It's BEAUTIFUL. I LOVE the fabric, but I don't really love using it.  So I'm wondering if I could turn it into my mei tai. Or would that be a bad idea.  Would it be bad to cut a woven material like that?  I really have no clue.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

the wrap I have is the 4th one down in the first column on the page I linked to, not the boring beige one that comes up first. lol

i can't see it being an issue to cut through the fabric as long as you finish the seams so that the fabric doesn't unravel.

Thanks!  It just makes me nervous.  It's such beautiful material, I don't want to ruin it, but right now it's just packed away in a box anyway so I'd love to use it for something.

i don't blame you for being nervous, but it will be better than it sitting in a box. maybe you could take it into a fabric store and ask them about it to see what they think.

That fabric doesnt stretch does it?  hard to tell form the description - if no stretch - then yes, perfect fabric for Mei Tai  - (although in my opinion, a shame to ruin a long wrap like that - consider selling it and buying some nice plain cotton with your earnings! )
