Anyone else feeling horrible with this heat?

I live in CT and it's been so hot here lately! And the humidity just makes it ten times worse. We just moved into a house that doesn't have central air- we have a window unit and fan running constantly but it just isn't cutting it for me. I grew up with central air and the apartment we moved from had central air so I'm not used to this. My dh grew up without it and so it just doesn't bother him as much. We're hoping to be able to put central air in the house next summer, as long as we can afford it. But it isn't an option right now. Being hot makes me SO irritable and miserable and I don't want to eat. I'm sure I sound like a whiner and I apologize. But what is everyone else doing to beat the heat?

Yes! We have central air, so I won't complain about that - but going anywhere, even just from the parking lot is sooo uncomfortable.

What's making it miserable is that poor DS just wants to get out of the house, outside - somewhere. Other than attempting some pool trips, we're spending a lot of time inside, which is making me a little nutty too :(

Cool showers, popsicles and gallons of water are all I've got right now.

I feel really bad for all those people without power in this heat.

Yup, it totally sucks. This is precisely why my other kids were spring babies :p We have one window unit that does pretty well w/ cooling the first floor. Mostly staying inside and going out swimming with friends or to the spray park. We just spent the whole day today at a local state park that has a beach swimming area & shade, yay!

I grew up w/out central air & don't run the a/c much, but being pg makes me run hotter than usual, so I have completely wilted.

Here, in Seattle, it was in the 50s and overcast/rainy until the day before July the 4th.  And then came... summer!!!  But it's nowhere near as hot as what you folks are likely encountering in CT and on the east coast in general.  Most days are in the low to mid 70s (it'll be 80 on Sunday, yay!!), and the evenings cool into the 50s.  It's amazing how cool evening temperatures make the daytime highs bearable.  I cannot imagine living without AC in a place that didn't cool down into the 60s at night after a roasty day.

Hang in there, and be sure to drink lots and lots of fluids.  Its easy to get dehydrated when it's so hot out.

When I was pregnant with DS, we had an uncharacteristically hot summer (most days in the 80s or 90s, with hot evenings since our apartment at the time was south facing and poorly ventilated).  We spent a lot of the afternoons swimming, then coming home and stripping off all our clothes to sleep.  It was definitely an adventure!

I've been struggling with the heat big time!  We were without power for a couple of days last week and it was awful!!  I couldn't sleep and spent one night in a tub of cold water.  I spent the days driving around to find places with power to hang out. and having to come home periodically to check on our cat.

Anyways, I'm sticking with the AC as much as possible and trying to drink lots throughout the day.  I'm really looking forward to this heat wave breaking in a few days so I won't feel sick every time I step out the door.  I've always been incredibly sensative to heat ( get sick  or pass out very quickly in high temperatures) and it's worse with this pregnancy.  Poor DS has such cabin fever but I just can't do outside stuff with him right now but even going to the pool just sounds miserable!

Today's supposed to be 104 here and we have air quality warnings when it gets this hot too. I sometimes get a little asthmatic when that happens so there's another reason to stay inside in the AC.  I guess it just gives me plenty of opportunity to nest and get our house in order so that's not a bad thing right now.

I feel bad for my husband too since he has to work outside all day even in all this heat.  He comes home so miserable!

Can't wait for fall and cooler temperatures!

I'm visiting inlayws in Indiana right now and it's been 105! Last night the car said 107 at 5pm. I've mostly stayed inside in the ac or floated in the pool. I can't stand to be out in it for long. I've felt a lot bigger and achier and uncomfortable here. I'm so not used to heat. Our nice summer temps back home in the bay area are in the low 70s! I'm on vacation so I haven't had to do much but life would really suck having to carry in groceries etc. I can't imagine not having ac in this heat! I am so grateful not to have to spend the rest of my pregnancy like this. I really feel for you guys!!! Though I have to say, my sister in law is a trooper. She is 37 weeks and still was pushing a stroller around the zoo last night in the heat.

The heat is *HORRIBLE*. I had my last baby end of June last year and I am really looking forward to having an october baby this time around.  Doing pregnancy/post partum in this heat is just a big fat no, lol. We don't have central AC but just splurged and got window units for every room because I just couldn't deal otherwise. Good luck everyone!!!!

I would kill for it to be in it's 80s or below. We've had nothing under 120 all summer. Live in IL.
