How to become economically independent?

My 6yo and I have been in my mom's house for over 3 years. It's not the best idea, we don't get along very well. 

I need to get out, but I can't pay a rent. My son goes to school from 8 to 1:30, some days he stays until 4, but I pay over $100

for that. Haven´t found a job in those hours. I do translations, make things and sell them, etc..... but I can't seem to have enough to get out. We live in Mexico city, so it's not cheap.

How do you do it? Thanks!

i work 40-50 hours a week, have a rental property sell stuff online, get child support and alimony and still can barely do it.  I don't know how to do it.

I do not know your history, but would you qualify for displaced homemaker grants?

ETA I am sorry, I just re-read and see your location.  I don't even know if that is an option there.

I think one of the keys to economic independence is to live under one's means for a time. Which is what you are doing by choosing to live with family. Can you continue to do so? Try to eliminate any debt and have savings before moving out.

Could you get a very entry level (and likely low paying) job with a company with the goal of working your way up? Continue to live with your Mom and get to a place where you feel your income gives you economic security?

I work 50 hours a week as a Nanny and Household Manager.  It is a lot of hours but I take my daughter with me so I don't have to be away from her and I have no child care expenses.  I'm in an unusual situation because many times you are paid less if you bring your child in this situation but my employers are very generous.  Is something like this a possibility in your area with whatever your back ground is?

Some of the things that you mention don't apply here...it's a whole different ball game!

No debt anymore, so I just need something that covers ALL of my expenses. I do many things but they don't quite make the cut each month. 

Nanny and household jobs are held for certain social and economic strats...I don't know how to explain this. In Spain, I cleaned hostels, houses, babysat and got paid great money for it. Here, these are the lowest paying jobs, so you don't them, you know?

So, I see we are all struggling on different ends of the rope, but we do the best we can for our kids!
