Move That Body! - Page 3

I was running about 3 miles every other day, doing yoga once a week, and strength training once a week, before I got pregnant, but stopped running shortly after the positive, because I felt "off" every time I ran, and maybe a little lightheaded. And then I got a job, which last about four weeks before I realized that I wasn't going to be able to handle it and my diabetes through this pregnancy, but that meant that, between the exhaustion of pregnancy and the exhaustion of working about four hours a day, I wasn't getting anything done. I'm back up to walking on the track four days a week, with a strength training class on Thursdays, and roller skating with my daughter every other weekend. I keep wanting to push myself with the walking. I'm up to 5 miles at the gym, plus another leisurely one and a half every weekday afternoon when I walk to pick my daughter up from Kindergarten. I was sorely tempted to push myself for another mile, today, because I was feeling pretty good, but I didn't want to miss my post breakfast meter reading. I may just have to walk back out to the car, test, and then go back in, one of these days.

I feel amazing, this pregnancy, and my hips were KILLING me for a while (they still do off and on, at night), but the more I walk, it seems, the better they feel. My OB looked at me like I was insane when I told him I was walking 4 miles a day and told me I wouldn't be able to do it forever. Ha! Is that a challenge, sir?

With my daughter, I was sorely out of shape, though I was a member of a bellydancing troupe and so danced at least once a week up through my eighth month. I really need to get back into it again, as I think it helped a lot with balance and coordination.

Any other cyclists out there? Our "car" is a big Dutch cargo bike and I take DD out in it a few times a week. My stamina has gone down - I can only muster about 5 or 6 mile rides before calling it quits these days. But I'm hoping this holds steady for a good while. We will also begin to deal with more nasty winter-ish weather soon which may cut down on my willingness to bike.

I'm not walking as much as I'd like to. With my first pregnancy, I was doing 4 miles walks very frequently (and was walking at least two miles every day) up until her birth. But now that DD is a toddler, I find that the walks are cut short because she just doesn't want to hang out in the stroller for such long periods of time.

I've been looking into prenatal yoga classes - the two offerings in my area are taught on the same day, at the same time, which is pretty annoying! Makes it harder (or at least more time consuming) to "shop around" for a good class!

I miss cycling. When we left Seattle, I ended up not doing it as much. We live off of a 50 mph and I didn't feel comfortable taking the kids out on that when they were still in the trailer. I've hardly pulled my bike out since we've moved. Kind of sad, I was a ride leader for the local bike club in Seattle and even did the STP (Seattle to Portland) a few years back.

I've also been looking for a prenatal yoga class and nothing is offered where we live. The one teacher suggested that I just come to her regular beginner class, but it is during the work day.
