When do you start back up? I think I started walking at 3 weeks with DD2, but I am 3weeks PP on Tuesday and know I will not be ready (2nd degree tear with both)...still spotting a little now that I am up so much, and my perineum feels sore...wonder how long it will be...looking forward to walking this summer and running in the fall...
Post Partum Exercise?
I've been thinking on this same thing and looking forward to checking in with my MW next week.
At the end of my lying-in, I started doing a few leg lifts and it didn't effect my bleeding (I had minor light brown CM at the beginning of week 2). However, now that I'm up and about (2.5 weeks) my bleeding has started up again---with no walking--just cooking a meal, tending to my LO's, etc. So discouraging!
From what I understand, if bleeding starts up again/increases you are supposed to decrease your activity level. Also, as a guideline--3 weeks walking and taking it slow, 6 weeks yoga/pilates and faster walking, 6 months more intense exercise (running?).
I did not tear this time and my bleeding was minimal cf to last times. But I'm feeling swollen and sore inside, too from being up these last two days and I know my body is not ready for walking quite yet.
I'd love to hear what you end up doing and how you are feeling.:)
My bleeding lasted longer this time, but it finally tapered off to only very random little light tan this week (at 4+ weeks PP), so yesterday I tried doing easy exercise on my elliptical trainer that I had been using daily up until the day I delivered. It is so strange to feel like it is harder to do now than it was while I was pregnant! Anyway, I didn't see any change in my bleeding, so I hope that means I will be able to continue using it. It did especially feel different "down there" as I was doing it, but not painful....
Yeah, I think it will definitely be a while for me...3 weeks pp on Tuesday, and my bleeding really picked up again just from being up and doing things with the kids, getting out of the house a tiny bit, laundry, laundry, laundry, etc. And I just haven't been making an effort to rest...until this weekend. Lots of long naps with my little T, which have felt so good - SO clear that my body needs it. Just need to remind myself of that and make the effort to escape upstairs when I can. I am excited to exercise, but know that I have the rest of my life to do it and will soon be bored of it, so I can wait until my body is ready. : )
I think my midwifes guidelines are 1 week nothing other than snuggle with baby. First month take it super easy with no pushing/pulling/strenuous anything. Then slowly add in activities with no real work/excercise until 3 mo pp. It worked for me last time- but I live on a farm and there is just stuff I really want to get back to doing since no one else does it.... like milking and stuff- DH has no extra time and it sucks because I would really love a glass of cold raw milk right now :)
i agreethat it is difficult to "not" do certain things at this point b/c we are the only ones who are really going to do them!
i'm about 3 wks pp and my mw gave me a green light for gentle exercise but cautions to not do too much until 6wks. i'm going to try to start walking again tomorrow and slowly introduce some pp exercises later in the week--pilates-type.
at this point, i'm getting good exercise just wearing ds around the house all day and nursing very frequently. it's a start. :)
i kinda feel like i am overdoing it. well, compared to what i am told to do anyway. i had him at 2am and by 6 pm i was switching laundry and folding laundry. i have been doing laundry since. only asking for help to fold a third of it. i made my bed with clean sheets twice, went grocery shopping and some other stuff. DH had to tell me to sit down today. i also quit bleeding and am down to only the lochia mucus stuff the second evening post partum. i am now on day 4 pp and i made dinner tonight and all kinds of other stuff. i just cant bring myself to sit or lay around all day. it seems to make the cramps feels worse. i make sure to sit down when my back starts to hurt even just a little and i sit plenty while nursing and rocking baby. DH is doing all kinds of my work but i still cant seem to not help. i think i feel bad that he has to do my work for me. it is too hot here to go for walks just yet. but i would like to start when it is cooler. i cant use the ymca daycare until baby is 6 mo but then i plan to start yoga and pilates classes again. until then it will be walking and using the yoga ball to do core stuff in my sparetime.
I have been walking for a couple weeks now, about two miles a day on a flat road. I am 4 weeks pp. The pregnancy center that I go to gave me a handout with pp exercises that I could do right away. I haven't had much of a chance since my baby wants to be held constantly or be in his stroller. The exercises are all pilates style, gentle core strength- lying on your back, holding core muscles in and breathing. Also standing flat against a wall and doing a little squat.
I'm almost 5 weeks PP and am still having a very tiny amount of bleeding. I keep thinking it's going to stop but it hasn't quite. I'm not really doing what i would consider exercise, but I do go for a 20-45 minute walk most days with Reid in the stroller. That is more to keep me from going crazy being in my house all day though. I can't wait to start running again, but I think that will be a few more weeks at least. Maybe around 2 months?
My midwife says listen to my body otherwise go ahead and gradually start working my way back to my normal routine. I'm back to walking, gentle yoga and hooping this week. It feels great! Have any of you heard of GaiamTV? I am so happy I found it.There are like 250 workouts and hundreds of yoga videos. It really is very cool, and it is only like 10 a month (my sister pays that much in two visits to local fitness classes).
