I need some good ideas... our parents/families aren't going to be hugely thrilled (we're not married - they don't like that)... we're pretty close with his parents and both of our extended families though, so I would LOVE for them to be as excited for us as they would be if we DID share a last name.
For DP's family, we're thinking of buying an A&W meal - Grandpa Burger, Grandma burger, Uncle burger, Mama, Papa.... and then pulling out a baby burger and setting it down at an empty spot. We're pretty sure they'd get it right away, and we thought it'd be a cute way to do it :)
For extended families, I want to get professional pictures taken while holding one of those "baby on board" signs, and then just send the photo to everyone. Simple, and that way, we don't have to do it in person.
My parents can be jerks, so I'm not sure what we're going to do about telling them. We may just include them on the photo sending! Haha.
I'm thinking of making a card for DP's grandparents that says, "You've always been amazing grandparents, awesome grandparents, and the best grandparents. But now, you get to be GREAT grandparents!" or something equally cheesy.
For my DH's parents, we decorated their car with that window paint stuff. We wrote "We're New Grandparents!" and had a baby on board sign and all. It was fun and they loved it.
For my mom, I made a onesie for one of our dogs that said "Big Brother" and took him over to her house. It took her a minute to get it haha.
For our grandparents, we're going to get a nice frame and put in a poem about great grandparents. I know they'll love it, I'm super excited.
I'm going to do the shoe thing too, except it will be just one frame with four pair of shoes (DH's, mine, DD's, and baby shoes), and it will say, "Our family is growing by two feet." I saw it on Pinterest. I can't WAIT until DH agrees that we should go ahead and put it on Facebook, because that's how we keep in touch with most of our friends and family these days since many are thousands of miles away. :)
