While we were on vacation, my 27 month old DS crushed the tip of his ring finger in a door. The door was blown shut by the wind while he had his finger in the way. It was swollen and there were these little bruise like marks on either side, but he was moving it at the joints and he calmed down after crying for a few minutes, so I didn't think it was an emergency. I kept an eye on it, and it seemed ok. Since we were on vacation we didn't take him to see anyone about it, we gave him some ice water to play in and the swelling went down.
Now it's weeks later and the little bruise marks are still there and it seems swollen. He doesn't act like it hurts him, and it still moves normally. I have even put pressure on it and moved it back and forth at the joint and he doesn't pull away or act like it's painful. It's not red or anything, it just looks puffier than his other fingers. I'm going to call the ped on monday, but I'm curious if anyone has BTDT and has any idea why it would be swollen?
