Let's talk... NAMES! « Back to Group Discussions

I know, I know , it's early. Am I the only one already thinking about names? My daughter's name begins and ends with the same vowel, and I would love to continue this theme. I'd also love to use a name that begins with the letter "O"... Those rules paint me into a corner, though - I can only think of Otto! And that's just not very appealing to me!

Anyway, here are a few of the names currently rattling around in my head... You'll see that most totally ignore the little rules I outlined above ;) We don't really share names in real life so it's fun to talk about them here :)

Girls:

Edrie

Esme

Ottilie

Zinnia (Zinnia)

Boys:

Obi

Zane (or Zain)

Surya

Eppa

So we have had the name River on the books since after DD for a boy or a girl. We actually had River James picked for DS, but it just wasn't him and we ended up with another R name. Now we have names for both kids that start with R... and we don't know if we are stopping at 3 kids. We really really like River, but I don't want to paint us into a corner with R names!

I know exactly what you mean about the R name issue! That's actually why I'm not so interested in A names. My daughter's name begins and ends with an A, and I'd hate to start an A theme with our kids' names.

I guess I'm not so interested in more popular/common names - but I hate to rule anything out so early on! You're right though - there's Anna, Ava, Eve... Then if we were willing to use nicknames there's Edie... (Using a nickname seems like cheating, though.)

The begin/end with the same vowel thing is such a specific idea - I don't know if we'll ever settle on anything that fits it.

We don't share names before the baby is born but we've had a boy's name picked out since before DD was conceived! And we've recently settled on a girl's name - about 90% sure we'll use it if we have a girl.

We have been tossing names back and forth for the last six months, DP is so cute, you can tell its his first time doing all this! But everything we have thought about is super super popular... Like Lilly, Bella, Charlotte, Ryan, Cooper... My other kids have very popular names, that when I named them, they were not popular and now they go to school with a bunch of kids that have their name! Ugh!!

So we're on a mission to find something normal yet not popular, or wont get popular over the next couple years. I guess you could say obscure would be about right. My mother is Italian and says I should look into those, but I haven't seen anything I love yet. 

Its so HARD!!! You cannot mess this up! They gotta live with this forever, and that's a lot of pressure, OY!

Asheby
Abbott.

Asheby and Abbotts middle names are Harrison and Jefferson, so we may stick with that theme if it's another boy also.

I'm impressed! We're so indecisive about names. My daughter didn't have a name till she was 3 or 4 days old and midwife started prodding us because she needed to complete the birth certificate paperwork. We actually ended up using our boy name on her (admittedly it would have been a very feminine sounding boy name...).

I love Olive too and I probably should put it on my list. I hesitate because DH's name is actually Oliver and we're not really into naming kids after anyone, you know? I like the idea of a baby (esp a girl) sharing his initials, but I don't know if I want her name to be so similar to his!

Ooh I'm liking the EZA letter repetition in the name Ezra Zane (Zane's on my list too, but I doubt it'll fly with DH). I also think it would be cool to have the initials EZ.

When DH and I were first together and talked about having a family someday, we both LOVED the name Isabella... BUT, that was over 11 years ago and since then that name has become so popular we've decided against it (want something more original). We both love the name Daniel for a boy and spend time every few days going over names. Can't seem to decide on anything for sure yet, but have a few that we're leaning towards... plenty of time to decide:)

I really like River and names with Z's in them too. It's funny how your partner can love a name but if you knew someone with that name that you weren't fond of, you hate it. Or is that just us?

Yeah, we're pretty old fashioned too, it seems!!!  But they seem to be coming back in style!  In DD's daycare group, there is a Juliet and a Lucy.

DD is Florence, and we really like Evelyn for a girl, but we were seriously considering this for the baby we ended up loosing, and I don't know if we'll keep it on our list or "retire" it.

Boys...we.are.stumped.  So I'll be following this thread closely for ideas!!! For a while DP and I were even joking that we had dodge the bullet the first time by having a girl and we couldn't take the risk of having a second, just in case it was a boy!  DP wants to call him Secondus.

One of our issues is that we want a bilingual French English name that DP's persian family can still pronounce!

I like River a lot....for a boy or girl. DP likes it but doesn't love it. Classic names are very popular around here. I know a few Lucys under 4. We tossed around Hazel for DD but changed our minds. It's since gotten quite popular too. On the weekend we talked about using Bodhi for a middle name. But DD has a family name for one of her middle names and we might want to stick with that theme. Her other middle name is my surname and this babe with have the same second middle name.
