chocolatechip, I love the name Eleni, and I think it was even on my list at one point, but, as my name and my daughter's name are both eerily similar to two of the main characters of one of my favorite authors (not intentionally), I feel weird using the actual name of one of her characters. She gave me a funny look the last time I saw her at a signing, when I told her my name and my daughter's name. XD

A friend of mine just used Clementine as a middle name! And ended up eating a whole bunch of clementines while in labor.  Lemuria is really pretty - it looks like it's the name for a mythical lost land? That's pretty neat!

Clementine is my daughter's name, so I'm a little biased and love it, but the other ones are interesting too.

DP and I have still gotten nowhere with names. We haven't been able to agree on anything. I still love Lysander, but he's not into it at all. His top pick is Tiberius. Yes, you read that right. Tiberius. Followed by Odin, which is a little better, but I still don't really like it. I tried to come up with some names that I wasn't really in love with, but would be okay settling on, and he didn't like any of them. They were Felix, Oliver, Emmet, and a couple others I can't remember.  I'm pretty sure we'll never agree on anything.

Sami - I'm with you.  DP and I don't even have a narrowed down list.  Right now, he likes DRAKE (which he doesn't even realize means "male duck" - which wouldn't matter if I liked the name, but I don't.)  I'm not too stressed though.  I've said before I don't need to have a few full names at the time of the birth.  No child has stayed nameless forever!

Scruffy do you remember the Friends episodes where Joey was on a soap opera, playing that "doctor" named "Drake Remora"?  That name always cracked me up.

Our current lists:  (girls) Greta, Ingrid, Jillian, Elsa (boys) Erik, Frederick, Phillip, Ivan, Todd, Elias.  My picks of those would be either Greta or Jillian for a girl and Elias or Ivan for boy.

Is your DP a Star Trek fan? That's the first thing that came to mind. (Am I remembering correctly that James Kirk's middle name was Tiberius?)

I love the name Zefram, but DH nixed it because of the Star Trek connection. He likes Zephyr, though. I also kinda like the names Guinan and Nava, who were also a Star Trek characters. Yeah, I don't get out much

Ok I'm a huge Trek fan - and my first thought about the Tiberius was "and how about James for a middle name" - and I like Zefram as well but I doubt it would get through the DH veto .  I don't remember a character named Nava though?  I always had a thought that we'd shorten DD's name to "Ro" but it just didn't happen.  She's not at ALL a "Ro".  (Not that we named her after Ro Laren.  We named her Rowan because we got married under a huge rowan tree.)

I've heard of a few little boys out there named Riker (or Ryker) though... can't say I like it...

That's true! And who is it on this forum, who had such a difficult first time birth that her husband just said, "after all that, SHE gets to choose the name"? So you never know what might happen.   (maybe you'll have such an easy birth, he'll be so impressed, he won't care what the name is any more?)

spughy, good list! I also really like Jillian, but maybe because it reminds me of my mom (who is named Jill). She's a pretty great woman.

I love your list!  All excellent choices!  I LOVE Greta, Ingrid, and Elsa!  I like Erik, Philip, and Elias on your boy list.  They're all great!  In fact, Elias and Greta were on my name list at one point!  You really can't go wrong with any of these, Spughy!

Oh Nava is a really random one... The name of a Ferengi guy on a single episode of DS9, I think in the second season. We're watching that now and I'm super conscious of every. single. name. I hear on the show.

Yeah I agree with you on Riker - I'm not into it, either. Sounds so gruff and harsh for a first name for a boy...

I was totally scouring Star Trek for properly "geeky" names, but none of them stood out for me as something I would genuinely enjoy.

I love your list of names, spughy, especially the girls names. :D
