Let's talk... NAMES! - Page 17

I think we may be close to a decision! It's a miracle! The name that DP picked that I think could actually actually grow on me is Isaac. The name I picked that he says he's okay with is Felix. So I think it's going to be either Felix Lysander or Isaac Lysander. At this point, I can't decide which one I like more, but I'm really happy that we've narrowed it down. :D

I love the name Nava, but my daughter is Neva, so a little too close.

I'm having the same trouble with Nava - DD's name is 4 letters, and it begins and ends with an "a". Too similar! I think...

We're actually drawn to the name Nava for a boy but I think it's probably a no-go because of the "similarity to sibling name" issue.

SamiPolizzi, that's awesome! It must feel SO GOOD to have it narrowed down to 2 options. We're narrowed down to about 10 options for each sex at this point, but none are obvious standouts.

I was told it was girl, so our name is Kayla Ann  and if it is a boy Im considering Teagan or Reagan, and I like Clay

Ha! Totally laughing about "Dr Drake Remora" on Friends!  But the name Drake is really cool and I'd say pretty unique.

happyhomebirther- did you decide on a middle yet?  Delia?

I can't remember whether I've thrown this name out here for feedback yet, but I've been rattling it around in my head this evening and it's feeling like a strong contender... What do you all think (don't worry, be honest) about the name Elio for a boy? Pronounced EH-leeo. Baby's last name is rather rare and very French in origin, though we use a bastardized American pronunciation.

OOOO, Lightforest, I like it! I like that it is different but has a simple and pleasant sound.

We just decided last night on middle: Rowan Ulysses

Ulysses is DH's favorite novel and I love it because this baby is an adventurer already, wandering about my womb in a restless quest for comfort --Ulysses!

Hahaha, I remember that! That name always made me groan, so silly and "made up" sounding. Of course, it fit the god awful character Joey portrayed smile.gif

Lightforest--Elio is awesome!! I have never heard it before but I really like it. It sounds unique but it rolls off the tongue easily and has a nice ring to it.

We had some names left over from when we were deciding on DD's name.

We always thought that we would name our boy Never, but that name sort of fell by the wayside once we were actually pregnant with a boy.

There were some others on the list, but none that really fit.

Then we were talking one night about nothing that had to do with babies and the word Supernova came up. I stopped mid convo and said to Dh that sounds like an awesome name for our baby(before we knew baby was a boy). At first, he wasn't into it and then a few more minutes into the convo, he started saying it over and over and decided that he loved it and it really fit.

As for a middle name, nothing really moves me, so I'm okay with not having one.

I suggested DH's middle name(which is his fathers 1st name), but he didn't really like that. DH suggested his 1st name as a middle. I could take or leave either one, so we're still open I think. So, it will be

Supernova E.

or

Supernova B.

I've always liked the name Rowan. Goes well with Ulysses!

Love Supernova, actually! It reminds me that there's a girl in DD's school named Ultra-Violet (I think it's hyphenated but I'm not certain), which I think is extra awesome. I've always loved the name "Nova" for a boy, but the car connotation is the only thing that made me hold back. For some reason I'm very partial to boy names that end with the letter "a" smile.gif

Thanks you guys for the feedback on Elio. After sleeping on it I'm still liking it, which is a good sign. DH prefers a pronunciation closer to EY-leeo ("ey" as in the word "hey"), which I like as much as the originally suggested EH-leeo.

Was toying with the combo Elio Zephyr, and I'm loving the lyrical quality (esp with baby's last name), and the initials EZ would be potentially cool.

Oh Nava is a really random one... The name of a Ferengi guy on a single episode of DS9, I think in the second season. We're watching that now and I'm super conscious of every. single. name. I hear on the show.

Yeah I agree with you on Riker - I'm not into it, either. Sounds so gruff and harsh for a first name for a boy...

We have joked about naming the baby Seven...

I'm way late here, but my niece is named Seven, they call her Sevy.

I'm loving all the names! *almost* makes me want to rethink ours... Nah, that was too stressful!

I have a friend with a daughter named "Nova" - I think it's beautiful, and I had never heard it before last year.

I have a good guy friend named "Seven" - suits him.

We are still no further along in our discussion...

Love Violet and Lavender...Ultra-Violet is really cool.

When my sister heard our babies name was Supernova, her mind went straight to the car and I actually hadn't thought about the car connotation yet. I explained to her what Supernova meant and why we were using it.

So far, nobody else has thought car, but I'm sure it will come :)

I think many people will call him Nova for short. My sis calls him Novi already.

Love Seven, especially for a boy.

So once again, I am asking for everyones opinions. I like being able to ask you ladies because for some odd reason family members seem to come from a personal place and it doesn't feel non-biased. Hence the reason we decided a long time ago to keep all family members (and friends!) in the dark about any names.

Anyway, we have finally narrowed our list down to four names. It has stayed the same four for the last three months, so we are pretty set in stone with them. At this point we are just waiting to see her face before deciding on the exact name. With that being said, we still have the middle name dilemma. DP has been strangely quiet on this part of the naming process, but that hasn't stop him from having a strong opinion about the ones I come up with! irked.gif Men. Oh well! I just keep tossing names out there and see what sticks!

What I need help with is two things, first, which middle goes with which first. Secondly, anyone have other middle names that we could consider? The biggest hurdles seem to be all the first names end with A, and the last name is short but starts with P so all names that either end in A or start with P sound ridiculous! We both like traditionalistic names, nothing too out there, and because its a middle name popularity doesn't really phase us.

These are the four first names we have nailed down;

Luciana (DP's favorite, he is in love with the nick name Lucy... and we would pronounce it [lu-SEE-ana] not the traditional Italian way [lu-SHE-ana])

Liliana (This is my favorite, I am in love with Lilly for a nickname, although very popular)

Noella (We both still really like this one)

Lucelia (Again with the nick name Lucy)

Okay! So for middle names these are the ones that have been approved;

Kinsley

Evie (Although I feel like it doesn't work with any of the first names... But I really like it)

Ruby (This is my great-grandmothers name, and we both like it)

But thats it! I need to do more searching, but I don't seem to have much time lately... Any help?

My favorite middle name there is Ruby, and I think it sounds pretty great with all the first names.

I agree that Ruby sounds nice as a middle name with any of your first name choices, and Ruby has the added bonus of a family/ancestral connection, if that's something you're looking for.

With a long (4 syllable) first name, though, I'd be tempted to consider a one syllable middle name if you really want it to flow. For some reason the middle name Grace is coming to mind as a nice example.

Another thing that I'm realizing is that a 2-syllable middle name with the emphasis on the second syllable might flow better -- for me the awkward thing (flow-wise) when I say your fn/mn combinations out loud is that the middle names all stress their first syllable, so it's like even MORE of a mouthful somehow coming after a 3 or 4 syllable first name. But say the first name choices with a middle name like Marie, or Noelle (again those are just the first that come to mind... you mention liking Noella as a FN which made me think of Noelle as a nice middle.)

I really love Luciana.  I also like Liliana, but it has become more popular lately (I work in a nursery and I've recently seen several baby Lilianas).

Both of them would be lovely with Ruby.

I don't really think you could go wrong, all your name options are beautiful!

Eli was a favourite of mine but was getting quite popular, so I love Elio as similar but with different emphasis.

Ulysses is a great name too! Perfect for a little wanderer.

I love Ruby as your middle name choice, Babytoes. Like LightForest, Noelle and Lucille popped into my head as good alternatives but I think you're set on the more traditional Italian 'a' ending, which are lovely too.

We've had a very short list, almost decided from the beginning but now the due date is getting closer every name is grabbing my attention. Has anyone any opinions on the names Cass, Cael, Silas, Moses and Rafe? We don't really mind how it goes with middle and surname so long as it doesn't rhyme!

fwiw, I love the name Silas.
