How did you meet your DH?
Oh..my turn already?

I met my husband in san diego. I was doing an aupair (nanny exchange) year in san francisco and went to san diego with my friend for new years. We were looking for a club to go in and finally found one and then my friend ran back to the hostel to get her passport (she didn't have a us id card) and the guy in front of me turned around and started talking to me. We lost each other in the club for a while but did share the new years kiss later that night lol.

The first few days were intense. We only planned on staying in san diego until january 3. Dh was still in the marines, stationed in pendleton. He had a few days leave over new years though and booked himself into a hotel and on the first he took my friend and me out for dinner since i didn't want to go alone just yet lol. That night we talked and talked until 5am. We talked about having children and getting married etc. It was odd because it was so fast to talk about stuff like that with a guy i hardly knew.

He would have married right away but my requirement was for me to meet his family and for him to meet mine. I went back to san francisco on january 3, we saw each other every month for a weekend until i had to go back to germany in april 2004. Hr met my parents in september 2004, i met his in may 2005 and the day after i met them we got engaged smile.gif. In november 2005 we got married in texas. Seven years..wow.

Wow- did you ever imagine you'd find love in the US while doing an aupair stay? What a great story!

ok- my other questions are:

how many siblings do you have, where do they live, and how often do you get to see them?

Who is the most influential person in your life? Why?

What was your family dynamic like as child? How is it the same or different from the one you have for your kiddos?

I love random "how did you meet" love stories like that.  Makes everything seem like it was just meant to be.

Describe your dream job.

Where have you travelled, other than the U.S?

No, I was not planning on meeting someone. I know many aupairs do meet guys, some eventually end up married but it was not a plan for me :).

I have one brother, he's 14 months younger than me. I like to call him my 'little brother', even though he's a head taller than me LOL. His name is Martin and he lives with his girlfriend in Leipzig/Germany. It's in the heart of former East Germany, kind of a hip little city but yet still smalltown-ish. They are planning on buying a house and starting a family (about time if you ask me, I wanna be an aunt, especially now, making him a 3 time uncle :)). We don't see each other that often but when we do it's so much fun to have him around. He's a quiet guy but he is funny as heck. He and his girlfriend were visiting us here in Texas in May this year and I saw him a few days for my surprise visit in March. I don't know when I'll see him again. Might be another year or two. We skype every now and then but usually just IM each other.

Hmm, I'm not sure about the most influential person in your life. I guess both my parents and probably mostly my mother. I was always somewhat 'scared' of her. I guess that would also answer the second question. It's not that she's a bad person or anything but I don't want to disappoint her and I'm even now still having difficulties standing up for myself. LIke when she suggests something I usually just say "yes, ok" instead of telling her what I really think. When she cries and when I know it was partly my fault that she is crying (she's a hormonal wreck these days LOL) then I just feel miserable. Nonetheless, I think I have a good relationship with my mom. We never fought when I was a teenager, probably because - like I said - I didn't want to disappoint her.

While I do hope and want my kids to respect me now and later, I sure hope they can also stand up for themselves and not feel bad to let me know if they have a different opinion than me.

My dream job..hmm...I LOVE planning stuff out and I LOVE seeing it all come together in the end. I could imagine being a wedding planner but without the bridezillas, they scare me :).

I do love my job as a Zumba instructor or fitness instructor all together. I like being active and moving around, makes me feel better so I guess once I'm back after baby I want to pick up more fitness formats, teach maybe turbokick or beachbody. That would be fun.

I have travelled to some of the European countries, Czech republic, Poland, Austria, England, Denmark, Italy, Bulgaria, Italy, Malta etc. My parents took us to Egypt once when I was younger. That was interesting. I had to wear a cape they gave me at a mosque so nobody would get distracted. Mind you, I was probably 9 or so, dressed in a shirt and shorts. That was definitely an experience. I would LOVE to go to Norway and Sweden one day. That's definitely still on my to do list and honestly, I should have just taken advantage of it  when I was still over in Europe :).

Oh, wow smile.gif I remembered your DH was military and that you were German, and I just kind of half-assumed that you'd met in Germany.

Are your kids bilingual?

What do you like best about where you live? What would you change if you could?

Hi Evi, I've been waiting for it to be your week :) Very sweet story of how you met your DH.  stillheart.gif

Do you make German food like sauerkraut and spatzle for your kids?

What do you miss about life in Germany? What don't you miss at all?

That is the sweetest story. Your grandkids are going to love that one day.

What has been your favorite thing about this pregnancy so far? How is it different from your other pregnancies? How are you different this time?

Yes, my kids are bilingual. Actually DS doesn't want to speak much German these days but I'm adamant and only spreak German with them and DD answers 98% in German, DS will speak English with me but he understands me. I just figure that it's easier for them to learn the language NOW. Grammar is hard, there so many exceptions to the rule, I'd hate for them to have to figure it out later in school. I'm not sure about learning to write it, but I want them to at least be able to communicate.

Hmm, I like best about this area that we have family around. I think you can have it nice wherever you live and just make the best out of the situation but this is not the place where I want to grow old. We live in a good school district right now for Elementary. Not so sure about everything that comes after. I think after DH is out of school and established in his job a bit, we'll move somewhere else. It's so industrial here. We live so close to the ship channel and large plants like Exxon and Bayer..I wonder what they blow into the air and dump into the water.

LOL..I make Schnitzel and Potato Salad (my potato salad is sooo good...gotta toot my own horn here LOL). I'm not a fan of Sauerkraut or Rotkraut. Never really liked it.

I mostly miss my parents and family and sitting in little cafes, enjoying ice cream or cake on Sunday afternoon. Just the sitting together, is what I miss mostly. Here, even birthday parties are so planned through and I always feel like I'm being kicked out after two hours. I DO NOT miss the pushy-ness of people, like when getting in a car or bus or even just waiting at the checkout line at the supermarket.

My favorite thing is that she moves so much, I LOVE chasing little elbows and heels. I like my belly, I like being pregnant. I have really easy and boring pregnancies, thank goodness. It's not much different from the other two pregnancies. I had some more morning sickness and food aversions in the beginning but other than that it's very similar to the other pregnancies I had. I carry baby the same, all up front, my belly button is out, I have only minor aches and pains etc. I got really lucky on that.
