Vancouver, WA & Portland, OR Parenting Information Needed

My good friend is moving to Vancouver, WA and is in need of parenting information for the area.  She has a nearly 6 year old son and would love to hear about the schools, neighborhoods, local support groups, community websites, etc.  I have already sent her the links to Vancouver's LLL and Portland's API groups, but is there a local AP Yahoo Group she should join, playgroups, etc.?  She will be staying home with her son for the first month or so and would love to get out and meet other parents.  She's able to drive into Portland to do so.  TIA!
