Vaccine Question

Hi Dr. Sears,

My son, newly 4 years old, received PC vaccine at 3 months old, resulting in intense, inconsolable crying all day/evening, ice cold hands, and vomiting for a month following the vaccine. When we introduced solid foods around 6 months, he had a reaction to rice cereal, which included hot, red sandpaper cheeks and diaper rash. We did not proceed with further PC doses. He is smart/active, but we are still working with him on potty training, with constipation issues following the Hep B series (not sure whether this is linked or not).

We now have a daughter, almost a year old, and we have held off on the PC vaccine so far. We were thinking of one dose, by itself, at her one year appointment; or one dose at two years old; or whether, considering my son's adverse reaction, we should not risk it.

Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you.

(My son was breastfed until he was three years old, no daycare. My daughter is breastfed, no daycare. My son will go to preschool in the fall.)

Whenever there's a bad reaction to a vaccine, i like to avoid that vaccine in subsequent children, UNLESS the disease poses a large risk.  I wouldn't call PC disease a large risk.  So, I'd skip that vaccine.
