MIdwife in NYC who takes Health Plus insurance

Hi there,

my friend is pregnant. She has Health Plus as insurance and she would like to go for a homebirth midwife. Does anyone know a midwife who takes that insurance, will travel to Queens and does homebirth?

My friend's first birth ended with a C-section and she is really interested in finding a midwife that is competent and willing to work with a VBAC birth.

She showed me the following list of midwives but it seems that I am not familiar with any of them... they seem like hospital midwives :(. But anyway, we are going down the list calling them. However, if you do know of a midwife who does take Health Plus, please let me know, thanks. She is 20 weeks, too.

Nice, but turns out most of these are in-hospital. Not sure if any are homebirth.

What would be ideal is a list of homebirth midwives in Queens...

I suggest calling the HB midwives and asking about the insurance. Most of the NYC ones travel to all 5 boroughs.

It is NY State law that women can have access to a homebirth. If no one in your network performs home births then your insurance is required to cover out-of-network birth like it is in-network. You can file an "out for in" or something like that. If none of those midwives on the list perform home births (likely) she should just look at the home birth midwives and talk to them about the law. They should know.

very few have returned her phone calls, and the one that did (Joan Bryson) seems to not be thrilled it is a VBAC....

I believe so far she has called Miriam, Kristen and Cara.

It seems to not be so easy.
