4th degree tears and legalities

Hi. I decided to write a thread after reading about someone else's 4th degree tear. I also had a really hard labour (with my first; second child and any children we have hereafter need to be born via c-section) which resulted in a fourth degree tear. I don't know any midwives, only medical and emergency nurses, but what I have heard is that 4th degree tears need to be fixed up by a surgeon whereas mine was stitched up by a G.P who never bothered to follow it up despite the fact I told him at my sixth week check-up I was having incontinency problems as well as anatomical discomfort. Does anyone know if it is correct, that a G.P is not qualified to repair a fourth degree tear? If so, I may have legal options to help me afford the operations I need to get.  I'm currently on the public waiting list to have two operations, one to open my stomach up and have a bag put in and another to repair the muscles.:(

Sounds to me like you're not in the USA (there are not really GPs here). Since you're asking a legal question, maybe you can specify what country you're in.

Oh, sorry. Australia. General Practitioner is what G.P stands for.
