Asking for siblings?

Is this just a stage some children go thorugh?

My DD is only 16 months so she has not been asking for siblings, but DP and I have pretty much decided that at this point, we only want one child.

I'm just wondering if this is a question I will have to answer at some point. And if so, is it just a phase kids go through, and then forget about?

Each of my boys started this at about 18 months old.  All, but the youngest had a sibling by the time they were 3 yrs old.  My youngest asked around the same age and continued to about 3-4 yrs old.  At that point we were done having more kids.  We were really honest with him that we were not planning on having anymore children, and we made a big deal about having younger cousins, so he would have the chance to be a big brother to them.  Now he's 8, and although he mentions occasionally that he would have liked to have a younger sister or brother, he's pretty content to be "the baby".
