Do I wean? Ovarian cysts, pain, and chinese herbs

I nursed my DS until almost 4 ... DD just turned 2.  She has nightweaned but still nurses several times a day.  I am having severe ovarian pain and an ultrasound confirmed multiple cysts.  My doctor referred me to an acupuncturist and she wants me to take herbs that require me to wean but may be incredibly effective.  My doctor already has me on alfalfa and vitex and a cal/mag mix from Standard Process.

I am torn -- I'm in my 40s and want to take this very seriously as the pain is significant and increasing.  I am writing this from bed because it hurts to walk.  Yet, DD still loves her mama milk.

Any suggestions on how to weigh DD's needs along with my needs to feel well and not develop anything more serious?

That's a tough situation.  It's possible you can explain it to her and find something special to do during what would have been nursing time?  Sometimes just lying next to you and cuddling your breast might be enough.  How long do you have to take the herbs?  If there is an end point, you could possibly point to that as a time that nursing could resume.  I remember meeting a little girl who had weaned due to her mother's pregnancy, but who kept telling us that when the milk flow was back, she would nurse again.  Of course she never did, she was done.  But I think knowing that it Could be possible helped to ease the transition.

I would take the herbs for at least three months.  Last night, the pain was excruciating.  I had a fever, the shakes, chills, and realized I either had appendicitis or ruptured cyst(s).  It still hurts to walk today but the fever is gone.  I feel like I have the flu.

The idea of pinpointing a time in the future to resume is interesting -- DD understands the calendar (loosely) and we use it to mark weekly events.

After the pain I was in last night, I am, sadly, thinking that mommy's health may just have to trump DD's nursing :(

The only things she loves more than mommy milk are jelly beans.
