Off Topic - but interesting! Women Have Higher IQs Than Men... « Back to Group Discussions

Was just reading this on Yahoo! Shine:

I figured this is a safe, non-controversial place to post this since we're all girls here  According to the article, "for the first time in a century of testing, women are scoring higher than men on IQ examinations. Until recently, women's scores lagged behind men's by as much as five percent leading some scientists to claim that men were inherently more intelligent than women. Over the decades, men's and women's scores have both improved, but women's have surged more dramatically."

Isn't that interesting? I didn't read any of the 3900+ comments that accompany the article. Probably posted by a lot of men who disagree!

The only reason we've lagged behind is that IQ assessments are usually designed to test logic and pattern recognition, things that women weren't really required to know until relatively recently in human history. It they tested things like social perception or other such (important) human things, women would have been kicking intellectual ass long ago.

Plus I suspect that men are getting less intelligent. For example: DH decided to cook pasta while I was sleeping a few nights back and made the decision to listen to his music on noise-cancelling headphones while it boiled away. Cut to who-knows-how-long later when I wake up to the fire alarm screaming and the whole place filled with smoke. Run into the living room to find my lovely husband bopping his head to the music, blissfully unaware. I, of course, yelled and gave him a little smack to the back of the head to gather his attention to the smoke billowing through the halls. His response:

"oh, so that's why the cats were acting so weird"
