I need to vent. I let my dog out for his final pee of the evening and he gets sprayed in the face by a skunk. He proceeds to run into the house and before I could stop him, he rubs his face on the couch and a blanket. DH is sound asleep, blissfully unaware of the chaos ensuing one floor below. I threw him (the dog) into the tub and tried to at least shampoo some of the smell out, fully aware that shampooing does not typically help. I'll need to run out tomorrow and get a bunch of bottles of hydrogen peroxide to make a de-skunking concoction. This is all new to me, so I hope it works.
Mind you, every smell in my house was bothering me BEFORE this skunk incident. Since being pregnant, I have been absolutely repulsed by my house for weeks, and no matter how clean I get it, the smells still bother me. Now, with the skunk smell... I just don't know what to do. The blanket is in the washing machine (I may just have to toss it) and I doused the couch with Nature's Miracle. For now, I think most of it got on the blanket... but my house stinks, it's late, and I'm tired.
This is all on top of my just returning from a four day camping trip to find that my toilet is mysteriously no longer flushing properly (and I have only one bathroom). DH asked if I flushed a tampon down there. Really?!?!?!?!?!
Did I mention when I let my dog out to pee, I also went outside to pee like a frontier women because the toilet can't be flushed for 6-8 hours? I'm lucky the skunk didn't get me. Who knew the camping amenities were more luxurious than those at my house? I actually felt fabulous when I was camping and now I've returned to a rancid house and no toilet. I don't want to waste money I don't have on a hotel, but this may be my only option.
If anyone has a good home remedy for getting rid of bad odors, please let me know. I'm going to try simmering vinegar on the stove tomorrow to see if that helps.
Okay, rant over.
