Can someone explain -Learn Nothing Day- to me?

I've been hearing about this and I just don't understand it. I'm not judging or criticizing I'm just trying to understand what this is. I can't tell if it's something serious or a joke to against those who criticize unschooling.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Coincidentally, I just blogged about Learn Nothing Day.

Here's my post: Oops

Here's the page on Sandra Dodd's site about the day.

IMHO the day serves to highlight that learning is a natural human function. The idea that we could truly spend a day 'learning nothing' is humorous. Which is what my own blog post is about.

So while I don't see it as a joke (and certainly not a criticism) it is light-hearted and joyful.

I've never heard of it and I'm sad we just missed it!  I think I need to impose our own "learn nothing day" soon and quietly take note of all the things that we are indeed learning :D

Well, I tried not to learn anything that day, but I learned that it was Learn Nothing Day.  Maybe not a joke, but I laughed nonetheless.

Offering just a personal musing:  as unschoolers, we are often in a position of defending ourselves and our lifestyles.   What do we point to?  The things that schooled society currently values:  I talk about impromptu science, discovered math, learning to read by themselves.  But if you asked me what was really important in my children's life, I would not start with these things.  These are the things that justify my unschooling to the greater public, and to my more insecure (public-schooled) self.  My secure unschooling self finds joy in mud between the toes and feeding huckleberries to supremely calm little chickens, watering the nursery, even at 5 and 7yo, not just 2 and 3.

I'm glad my girls do learn the other stuff, but I see the point of the Day: we say we are learning 24/7/365, that there is no division between real life and learning.

Well, it's about time we unschoolers take a summer vacation....... really immerse ourselves into unschooling.  (Or, nevermind, screw "unschooling", just life.)

It is not necessarily a lifestyle to learn ABC in a different way.... it's just life.  It might be good to just let go of these internal justifications and live it.  (Warning: seemingly superior statement ahead-- no offense intended)  Just like enlightenment, thinking about it kind of gets in the way.
