What prenatal are you taking if you are taking one.

I've been taking New Chapter Organics Perfect Prenatal its 1 pill 3 times a day. We are meeting with a midwife this week and I'll see what she thinks of this choice. I started taking it before we conceived. The pills are relatively small and don't bother me.

Vitamin code raw prenatal. I like it because since the iron is raw it is easier on my stomach. It also has a probiotic blend.

I looked at that one too and it looked like a really good one. Yes I like having a probiotic blend as well. There are so many choices out there.

I'm also taking the Vitamin Code Raw Prenatal. I was a huge fan of New Chapter until I found out that they sold out to P&G and I won't support that company, pretty bummed because I loved New Chapter products and hope they won't go downhill as some have predicted.

I'm taking vitafusion prenatal gummy vits. Most prenatals make me feel sick, or well sicker than I currently am. These don't bother me at all and they have 800mcg of folic acid, which is what I need. My pharmacist told me to give them a shot, she also used them while she was pregnant.

I was taking new chapter previously too! I think the VC ones are a little gentler.

I'm taking the target version of the vitafusion prenatal gummies.  I used a gummy multivitamin even before we started preparing for pregnancy, and I never forget to take something so yummy.

I'm taking the trader joes brand. I used them with DD and started back on them again when I was ttc.

Those gummy ones sound interesting though.

I've never been a fan of taking pills, but my midwife suggested I at least start taking folic acid and wild yam, so I think I'll start with that.

Wha'? New Chapter bought by Procter and Gamble? Goddamnit.
That's about the best brand available in Ireland. You guys in the States are so lucky with the widest range of choices in healthfoods and supplements. I'm gonna try a homemade herbal as recommended in a thread about queasiness by Ktietje85.

I take New Chapter Organics as well. I really like them, they don't taste as bad as some others, and don't make me sick to my stomach. I like that you don't have to take them with food!

I'd LIKE to be taking the new chapter organics - they're the ONLY prenatal I've been able to find that has real folate instead of synthetic folic acid.  Right now, I'm just taking a prenatal made by Jamison. I found it locally, and I'm just taking it to hold me over until my order of New Chapter comes in. I'm in Canada, and for some reason, only the AMERICAN formula has folate, so I have to order from Amazon.

Also in Canada, how do you know if it's synthetic folate?

The words "Folic Acid" anywhere on the bottle. Some bottles say Folate (Folic Acid) - that's synthetic, too.

my suggestion for looking for just folate/folic acid, Thorne's B#6 or the Basic B complex.  They have methylfolate which is better than synthetic, and the B6 will help with nausea.  If you don't use B's you pee them out mountain dew yellow so no worries of too many

I know, it's a total bummer. I've been taking New Chapter for years, they were such a good company providing great products you could trust. So very disappointing that they sold out to P&G. irked.gif

For anyone interested in the folic acid vs folate dilemma... I researched this like crazy when looking for a prenatal vitamin (to replace the New Chapter Organic Prenatal that I was almost out of), I found some interesting information, in addition to the multiple discussions here on mothering.com about the subject, I'd like to share the following...

According to the mayo clinic (mainstream): "Folate and folic acid are forms of a water-soluble B vitamin. Folate occurs naturally in food, and folic acid is the synthetic form of this vitamin. Folic acid is well-tolerated in amounts found in fortified foods and supplements. Sources include cereals, baked goods, leafy vegetables (spinach, broccoli, lettuce), okra, asparagus, fruits (bananas, melons, lemons), legumes, yeast, mushrooms, organ meat (beef liver, kidney), orange juice, and tomato juice. Folic acid is frequently used in combination with other B vitamins in vitamin B complex formulations."

There are much more detailed descriptions available but the one above seemed like the most concise to include here. Folate from natural food sources is best and the folate in the Vitamin Code Raw Prenatal states that it's from Raw Food Created Nutrients. Hope this helps anyone else that's concerned about this.

I had no idea folic acid was synthetic! My problem is most prenates make me sicker than I already am... I wonder if I can find folate in a gentle form?

I would try Standard Process - folic acid.... which in fact in folate.

Standard Process produces no synthetic products. You can get your calcium from them and I also take catalyn for extra nutrients.
