I'm planning my grad school thesis. Can you help? :)

Hey everyone --

I'm currently a grad student in the field of education.  I have a tentative plan to do thesis research on gifted children's experiences in entering elementary school -- focusing on kindergarten, since that's when most kids enter the school system.

What am I looking for?  I'm looking for a couple people with experience with young kids (teachers, psychologists, ??) who can help me compose solid questions that I can ask of 5-year-olds about how they feel about school to try to determine how the school experience impacts the engagement and motivation of young gifted kids.

I'm particularly looking for people who have solid experience with gifted kids, but also with non-gifted kids, because I'd like to talk to kids in both groups.  And would you believe, it's much easier said than done to find someone in my college with a lot of experience with young gifted kids?  So I am hoping someone here might be able to fill this gap for me.  Or a couple someones!  If you could be my someone, can you please PM me?

(If you're a parent who has an idea about some particular aspect of your children's early school experience you think would be relevant to this sort of study -- I'd totally be interested in hearing about it. :) )

Good luck with your thesis!  I'm going to bump this up so you can get some more views.

You might want to contact the public school district in Carmel, IN.  They actually have what sounds to be a wonderful gifted program and may be able to point you to some parents.

Also, I believe Bernards Twp. (not Bernardsville) in NJ tests incoming Kindergartners and flags the gifted ones.  I forget what they do with them, though.  None-the-less, they may be able to help you find some parents to chat with.  And if it's not Bernards, then try Bernardsville but I'm almost positive it's Bernards.

I'll be thinking about this, Erin, and wishing you luck! Are you looking for regular, traditional public school input or just anything?
