Any definitive way to tell which way the baby's turned?

I know it seems silly at this point, but I'd like some tips for self examination. How (if you can) can you tell if he's head up or down? This is the only thing I am scared of when it comes to this pregnancy. I want this homebirth so bad and feel like this would be my only obstacle. Thanks and I apologize for being neurotic. :LOL

My baby is breech right now. I am carrying this baby really high and I can feel the head at the top of my uterus. I wouldn't worry yet about being able to tell position. I know what you mean though. Having a c-section is my biggest worry for this pregnancy. I was told not to really worry about the baby's position for a few more weeks.

I worry about the position as well. I've been telling the baby to go head down and massaging my uterus to see where the head is... it's so hard, hey? I mean to actually be able to tell which body part is which. I will always remember how amazed I was when my DD was born, cause she was in ONE PEICE :LOL You know, you feel a kick (or was that a punch) on one side of the uterus, and on the other side you feel something, (was that his back)??? I would love some info on how to tell as well~~

I was never able to tell with either of my other pregnancies. With my last one, the doctor wasn't able to tell and called in the midwife and she couldn't tell either. We did a 30 second u/s in the office at 38 weeks just to check! He had been steadily transverse with head on my right side until at least 35 weeks. I think he made such an imprint there that it was hard to tell when he moved.

With my first everyone could tell by palpation... even dh.
