Looking for natural advice to help with my reflux. I did not have any problem pre-pregnancy.

Thanks a lot!!!

Papaya enzyme really helps with heartburn.  What I did was just cut up some papayas to keep in the fridge and I eat a slice when I feel heartburn coming on.  HTH!

Milk or anything with calcium helps.  Chewing gum apparently triggers the esophagus to close, thus reducing heartburn as well.  And if you have trouble at night, sleeping elevated can help.  These are all pretty common remedies though, so you probably have already tried them.

My midwife also recommended papaya enzymes to me. I don't like papaya but you can buy it in pill form at a health food store.

The papaya tablets don't taste anything like papaya, so you're good there... I found that if I ate too much or if I ate any amount of sugar or sweets during the day I would have horrific reflux at night.

I've also been told only to eat small meals at night and nothing for a few hours before bed. Papaya enzymes help a bit. Slippery elm lozenges also help. Chewing raw almonds, eating a few spoonfuls of plain yogurt or cream.

The only thing that helped with mine was rolaids and not eating peanut butter before bed.
