Colostrum?!?!!!!

Hi Mummas!!

So tonight after getting out of the tub I noticed a fair amount of "crust" on my nipples. I wiped it off and when I did I started leaking!!
Lol I feel amazed and magical hahahaha!!!
They both leaked enough (when squeezed) to get a few drops each side!
I am 19.2 weeks with first babe and wasn't expecting this for months!!
Is it ok to express this and freeze? Or should I be leaving my new "discovery" alone? (I know expressing later on can help labour kick off and I want this bean cookin for a while yet!)
Anyone else leaking??

my colostrum came in about 20 weeks with dd and by 6 months i had to wear nursing pads all the time. you don't *need* to pump it ahead, since you'll make plenty for your baby when it is born, but i strongly doubt pumping will start labor. i'm nursing dd and my nipples get tons of stimulation with no contractions...and lots of mamas nurse through pregnancy. it will only start labor if your body is already close to being ready. a nice thing about getting milk so early is you know you won't have trouble waiting for it to come in when baby comes. also, if you do pump so far ahead you might be able to donate some colostrum to a hospital that cares for preemies. almost all NICU's accept colostrum donations (at least here in the US) because it is so good for early babies.

Yes, to everything mamadiamond said with one exception--having colostrum now isn't really an indicator of how your mature milk will come in necessarily. If you have a cesarean or a medicated labor you are still at risk for a delay in mature milk coming in, but babes can thrive on colostrum only for a week or a bit more while your mature milk comes in ; )

oh totally, i meant having colostrum right away when baby is born. the real milk can take time, but at least colostrum is definitely already there. i've had friends who didn't even have colostrum till 24 hours after the birth.

Yep. Funny enough this week I noticed colostrum and also started peeing myself when I cough, so leakage all around.

Totally normal to be noticing that already, but I haven't heard of anyone expressing ahead of time while pregnant (and not already nursing)...  I'd just leave them be and wait for baby to show up and help himself:)  (Unless you are wanting to look into donating as mamadiamond mentioned - I had never even thought of that before.)

I agree. I don't know that pumping at this point would be successful. I would say just wait until LO comes for it ; )
