My DD is 21 months old and hasn't nursed in 5 weeks. I'm currently 16 weeks pregnant, so I know that has influenced her weaning, but it's so sad for me. Really for the first week or so, I was in denial that she could even wean this early. For the last 2 weeks before she nursed for the last time, my DD bit me three times, which was very uncharacteristic of her. My guess is she was frustrated that there was not as much milk as before. Each time, I said no very firmly and pulled her off, which she didn't exactly appreciate. I knew that by getting pregnant it would likely change our nursing relationship, but I guess I wasn't prepared for it to happen so early. I have offered "milkies" to her on many occasions, but she is just not interested in nursing. For the first couple of weeks, I would express some milk to try to entice her, but she would just say "all done" and try to wipe it away. She is still very boob-oriented, though. She asks for "milkies," and I oblige, but she just sucks her thumb and caresses the boob. She doesn't try to latch at all. She does this funny little thing where she likes to take the nipple in her hand and put it on her eye. She's fallen asleep so many times doing that. She talks to her "milkies" and gives them both hugs. She even likes to sing songs to them. She still gest wide-eyed and happy when she sees them, she just doesn't want to nurse anymore. Even though this has been pretty hard for me, (especially in the setting of raging preggo hormones) DD seems to have taken everything in stride, for which I am grateful. It will be interesting to see what happens when she sees the new baby nursing...
