Ideas on what to do with my kids during UC?

Does your midwife know you were planning on using her for childcare? I think most midwives would not be willing to take care of other kids while attending a birth - their focus is on the labouring woman.

I did not have a UC, but I did have to arrange childcare for my last delivery because we had just moved far away and knew no one. I interviewed a whole bunch of neighbourhood people willing to babysit for a few hours, and made a detailed schedule with names and availability. I was expecting a quick delivery (I wasn't - over 30 hours of active labour) so I wanted to find someone quickly. We ended up using 2 different neighbours, for about 10 hours each. Worked out well.

Good luck!

It's probably cheaper to hire a babysitter than a midwife, right? Don't keep your midwife just because you want someone to look after the children. That's not her job.

MWs are expensive to have as only a babysitter- you could send the kids off to camp and birth at a luxury hotel for what some charge in my area (4-6k). However, if you want to have one there to watch the kids, Im sure there is one that will do it. Just be honest with them, they are there to help you.
