Wow your story sounds so much like my story, with me being your son. I am 34 now and living with the same problem. Just wanted to say that you are getting some good advice on this forum, speaking from my experience. I wish i had some of the advice and drugs that are available today back in 1999. I would like to say that things can get better, today I earn over six figures as a software designer and happy with the way my life has turned out.
