Identify a plant for me???

My kids and I visited a public garden recently and we saw a really interesting plant that was not labelled.  They want me to buy one for our garden but I don't know what it is called.  It had fern-like leaves that when you touch them, they fold up.  The flowers looked like small pink cotton balls.  Any ideas?  I didn't think to take a picture of it.

"plant"?

Shrub?  Tree?  Woody?  Herbaceous (just stems, no branches)?  Knee high?  Over your head?

If you decide to intentionally plant a mimosa please be warned that you will eventually have babies growing in your lawn, garden, neighbours yards/gardens, etc.  We have a few in the neighbourhood and the little ones are taking over my garden.  They grow fast here and are prolific.  I always thought they were beautiful and loved the look of them but am starting to dislike them since they're a bad weed here.

Good point!  They are not weedy at all where we live.

Find out, for sure, before you plant.

I'm on the border between zone 4 and 5.  If I plant a mimosa next year, it will probably be in a container anyway.
