Hi ladies! We're here....Eli is awesome. Seriously, the easiest going baby I've ever known. He's got 2 teeth, sitting up and plays on his own, and is trying really hard to crawl! He turned 6 months last week so he's had a few new foods to try. We've given him chunks of avacado, banana, sweet potato, and brocholi. He's getting the hang of it. Probably not swallowing a ton, but it's just the playing stage at this point. We're still breastfeeding and have no plans to stop anytime soon. I hope he goes past 2 years like his brother.
One big change for our family is that I finally started really making an effort to only eat whole foods. No refined sugar or grains. No packaged or processed foods. No hydrogenated oils. All organic. It's been a lot easier than I expected but we're still about 75% into it. We'll still eat out, eat at friend's homes, and order pizza occasionally. I don't believe in telling my husband what he needs to eat so he still gets himself chips, gatorade, etc. He'll catch on eventually! I'm probably spending less overall on monthly groceries. I love not going to the regular grocery store. Fortunately, we have TJ's, MOMs, a few local organic shops, and lots of farmer's markets. Next year I will join a CSA...I was just too late this year. Pintrest is an awesome resource for recipes and food ideas. Love it!
What else is everyone up to??
Whooooot!! We have a group!!! I missed you guys, I just couldn't do the Yahoo thing...
Things are beyond great here... Zach is 6.5 months, absolutely huge (95-97 percentile in all categories), and so much fun to be around! He has two teeth, rolls around the house like a Tazmanian Devil, and is saying syllables. He wants to crawl so much, but it's just too much work to haul around all his chub! He's such a smiley boy and everyone comments on how happy he is.
We started solids really early, around 3 months, because there was no way to satisfy his appetite with breast milk alone (and I refused to give him formula). He did beautifully from the very first day and began sleeping through the night by the time he was 4.5 months.
We have a great routine, several baby friends for him to "socialize" with, and we're going to swimming lessons! I'm working on the last ten pounds of baby weight but not really stressing because we want TTC again early next year, so perhaps the extra padding will have to stay on another year.
I can't wait to catch up with everyone here...
Love that we have a group now! babies all the same age = same topics of conversation.
juneboy - i am totally with you on the cutting out refined sugars kick. i did it beginning in june to shed some stubborn baby weight and am only 5 pounds away from pre preg weight now. i gained a LOT pregnant somehow even though i ate fairly well and worked out consistently. go figure. but i am loving the change and don't even crave bread or crackers or anything like that, and it actually makes you eat healthier whether you intend to or not, because then most if not all your calories are coming from things with actual nutritional value. makes me feel good knowing DS is getting all good stuff from my milk.
montessorimama - i want to do swim lessons with LO! what are they like at this age? mostly just holding babe in the pool? i think it's never too early.
So my DS was born on 1/5, so he just turned 7 months and is doing great. He has his two bottom teeth and his two top just cut through, with two back ones working their way out. teething was kind of rough when the teeth were actually cutting, no fevers or anything but general fussiness and sleep was harder. i dont give much credence to percentiles, but just to update on size - my dude is 35th percentile in weight but 70th in height with a big ol head. tall and slender definitely runs in the family! he is sitting up on his own with the occasional fall backwards, rolls all over constantly and is just starting to army crawl. he talks up a storm, people are always commenting on how vocal he is. he also has the cutest laugh and thinks the weirdest things are funny, so mama and papa are like court jesters these days, looking like fools to get a laugh. i love it. as far as sleep goes he naps great, two long ones and one short one in the morning, night sleep varies depending on teething but he goes down at 8 and is up at 8, usually i feed him twice a night. on a rough night it can be like 4 times. ouch. i figure he'll get it one day! we started solids a couple weeks ago and it's been going great, he mostly just plays with his food and swallows only some. i can tell by his poops that he is getting something, yikes! i miss breastmilk poops. he loves avocado, squash, sweet potato, banana, peaches/plums, spinach, cucumbers, kale and blueberries. not crazy about peas. do you guys feed broccoli/ cauliflower? my sister said they can cause gas/tummy aches since they are cruciferous. not sure though. we don't do a ton of purees and like the idea of BLW. we grow most of our food so everything he eats minus the avocado blueberries and bananas are grown by us, which i love.
looking forward to hearing some more updates!!!
I missed you guys!!
Things here are...insane. We moved the first week of July and I had a lot of our house put together. Well yesterday we had our second and final stage of stuff brought over (all the "staging" furniture and whatnot). Now I can't even park in the garage - and it's a 3 bay so I have a lot left to do!
Anyway, the new house has a pool and all the kids just love swimming and playing. Q totally digs splashing around in there all nakey and cute. :)
She's awesome! Mellow and used to just hanging out alone while I deal with the other two. She started crawling at 5.5 and doesn't have a lot of speed to it yet, but it's there and deliberate. She started doing acrobatics while nursing. Weird kid starting biting my nipples (no teeth yet) - first kid to do that! She wants to be eating, but I've been really bad about regular trips to the grocery store so I literally threw Cheerios down for her tonight. Total third kid!
Still not even close to STTN. Oh how I would love that! During the day I don't mind knowing it's coming to be woken several times at night (she's in her own crib), but the walk down the dark hall at 3am suuuucks.
Oh, you all will appreciate this...I was bathing her in the kitchen sink yesterday (it's an undermount design so fairly low) and the freaking kid started pulling up. Seriously? I don't need my six month old trying to be a mover and a shaker!
AQ - I missed you! You crack me up, I can't imagine dealing with three...
Begoniamama - Swimming classes are really cool! Zach has an instructor who works with three babies each session (the parents just hold the babies between turns but we don't do any of the techniques, which is perfect because I don't want to be my child's swimming instructor). The teacher swooshes the baby around the pool, and he even goes face-first into the water! He really enjoys his lessons, it's amazing how they really do have a reflex that makes them hold their breath. Right before his face touches the water, you see him take a breath, it's awesome! He splashes around, smiles at the other kids, and then passes out from exhaustion as soon as we get home! :)
Oh, btw, my son eats broccoli and he's perfectly fine with it, no gas. We haven't tried cauliflower though...
No purees here, but I will tell you that I would cook an entire head of broccoli a week and my son would eat that at every meal. Seriously. The kid LOVED broccoli. And he would eat it cold right out of the fridge (double bonus!!). Never had an issue.
IMO, you try it and then stop serving it if there's a problem.

Hey everybody!!!
So glad to see everyone again and be on the boards!!
W's almost 7 months and doing great! Absolutely adores any body of water there is...we've taken her swimming in the river several times, and she just loves it! She even puts her face in the water herself, and if a wave hits her in the face, she just shakes it off and keeps kicking :D I missed getting her into swimming lessons over the summer, but am going to sign us up for the fall.
She's been grabbing things to pull herself up to stand for around 2 weeks now, and has tried standing on her own with no support! She's only lasted a couple seconds, but this girl is bound and determined to be walking soon...oy vey! She crawled for the first time while we were visiting her great-grandmother last week (Gram has carpet, so it's much easier to grip with little toes!), and has tried a few times at our place (wood floors) but mostly gets frustrated and plants her face on the floor and yells, lol! She would gladly walk around all day, hanging on to my fingers :P
No teeth yet, but that doesn't stop her from chomping down while she's eating. Thankfully my "ouch!" surprises her and she's more gentle after that :D We're doing some solids, but mostly she plays with food. Hates cereal unless I make it super-thick, but won't eat egg yolk, and I'm hesitant to give her pureed meat (The doctor wants me to give her something that has a good source of iron, but she hates mashed/pureed things, so we're 'doing' BLW). She does love banana, sweet potato, watermelon, beans, and I've recently given her apple slices to chomp on.
She's pretty much given up morning naps, unless she's awake before 8:30. She'll usually go down at noon and around 5pm, both times for an hour or less. She's also a huge social butterfly and hates napping if she thinks something is going on in another room (eg. hearing her uncle talking...)
I've been doing a bit of signing with her, and, while she doesn't sign back yet, she definitely knows what a lot of the signs are! She's also been making a lot of phonetic sounds, and I've noticed that she'll make certain sounds at certain times (e.g. a-MA when she's tired or has hurt herself, an-GEE when she's hungry or mad). It's like she can't wait to grow up or something! :(

We had Niamh's 6 month dr. appointment last week. She's still in the 95th percentile for head and weight, 60 for her height. Like Montessorimama1, she was wanting to consume more than I could offer, so we started very limited solids at 4 months, and only when she was still hungry after nomming on the boobs for a while. Now, she's doing all the Stage 2 foods and there hasn't been a food that she doesn't like! We've tried small finger foods, but unless it's something bigger that she can use for teething (baby carrot, etc.), she doesn't seem interested quite yet.
Her sleep has gotten MUCH better! We've gone from waking up every 1 1/2 hours at 4 months to only waking up once a night (and she's started sleeping through the night on a couple occasions, too!), so my sanity has been saved! She still cat-naps during the day, but she's gotten better with sleeping about 45 minutes during her morning nap.
In the last 2 weeks, she's mastered sitting up on her own (which makes bath time with two kiddos MUCH easier!) and just last night, her first tooth broke through!
She still refuses to take a bottle or sippy cup, so I'm still limited on how long I can leave her with a babysitter. She got her dad's stubbornness, so she won't think twice about screaming for 2 hours straight, if I'm not there.
And 2 more weeks and I'll have breastfed her longer than DD1 (hooray for not being on hormonal BC that caused me to dry up this time around)!

Scarlett is doing great, I can't believe she's already 7.5 months old! She started army crawling on her 6 mo bday and then actual crawling two days before she turned 7 months. She's so fast already! She pulls up on everything she can and tries to stand on her own- if I try and hold her hands she pushes them away. She started saying mama and dada around 5 months and now says most of the consonants :) She's very tall (close to 29 inches) but also very skinny (only about 14.5 lbs), I think its because she's so active.
Within the past few days she's learned how to undo her thirsties velcro cover : ( Luckily she only has one.
Still no teeth over here, so we haven't really started solids yet. She's had sweet potatoes and bananas a handful of times but I'm in no rush to start BLW.
We do a mom-to-mom group once a week, baby music class twice a week, and LLL one time a month, I'm still looking for like-minded mamas in the area though.
Wow, some of our babes are really moving!
My girl is doing great, no crawling or pulling up yet though! We haven't really done the wellbaby checkup routine, but I do know she weighs 18 pounds, which I think is like 75th percentile?? She sits quite well, can kind of crawl/squirm her way backwards like a champ (she seriously covers ground this way). She loves to scream/squeal/shriek as loud as possible, babbles some too, loves attention from strangers. Sleep varies so much it's not even funny. She always goes down at 10:30 and wakes up at 9:30, but nurses anywhere from twice to 6 times a night! I suspect she might be teething, so that might have something to do with the increase in night time feedings. We're really only tinkering with solids, although my gut tells me she could use more food. I'm going to make egg yolks a daily thing for her now.
Juneboymum - glad to hear that you are eating well, I remember you wanted to lose some weight, hopefully it's helping. I'm still up 15 lbs, gah! But I've been doing the paleo/primal thing for awhile now, and while I'm not really losing weight, I am "toning up" so I can live with it.
AQ - I love the nakey baby in the pool! We swim a bit (lucky to live very close at a body of water) and I would prefer to just let DD be naked but it is public and all...
Montessorimama I want to see pics of that deliciously huge baby!
Hannabee we are signing too, really only "milk" and "eat" but I think she is understanding "milk" now because she gets all excited, so cute.
I'm so glad we have this group and can reconnect! I wonder if any of our old DDC mamas have gotten pregnant again...?
Amanda - Have you tried meetup.com for finding like-minded moms in your area? It took me a while but now I know several moms and we take turns planning activities.
element - Do you feed your LO the egg yolk on its own? Zach doesn't seem to like the texture so I mix it in with his breakfast solids, but I was curious what other babies thought of runny yolk. :) Sounds like your little family is doing so well, I'm thrilled for you!! :)
So... Pictures, ladies, pictures!!! I can't wait to see how our little newborns have blossomed! Here's my chubster, hamming it up for mommy at the park so I could send some pics to relatives. My aunt bought him the outfit he has on (size 12 months) and it BARELY fits him so these pictures were urgent! From the time he was born until he was three months old, he went up one clothing size every three weeks! Thank goodness for consignment stores, is all I can say...
