Great resources! Thanks for posting all this info! I have Heart and Hands on my bookshelf, and the more I read it the more I want to give birth alone and at home. We had planned on switching to a homebirth midwife around 28 weeks (she prorates and care at the hospital is free for us), but the cost of a new car makes that difficult. Every CNM and OB (all who have provided wonderful care) that I have spoken with would normally tell a mom to wait to come in for a natural birth, but since I have fast labors they want me to come in if I even think labor has started. Our other option is the freestanding birth center, which is also a school so it's more affordable, but I still worry about going in "just because" I think I might be in labor. If I wait until we know for certain labor has started it's very possible this baby will be born in the car. Anyway, I am giving serious consideration to birthing at home... alone.
