I'm wondering how people feel about scents during labor? Are you going to have them? If so, what kinds? Do you know if you liked them in previous labors?
My last midwife warned us that scents can be too much during labor, when the senses are all heightened. I recall bringing a scented candle to the birth center. It was a scent I loved. But once it started burning, I felt like I was being suffocated by it and made them put it out right away. (of course I was also entering transition at that point!)
I really love the idea of birthing by candle light (if it's at night). I think I'm going to buy some unscented candles. My doula mentioned beeswax candles. I wonder it even those will bother me? But also, I am a freak about Fall candles - pumpkin, spice, vanilla, etc. I have a few I bought last yr and I couldn't resist buying another today. Since this is a fall baby, it seems fitting to birth to those scents. LOL. I'm just afraid I'll hate it again. And I would love to birth in front of the fire place - but I am so afraid the smoke from starting the fire will fill the room and make me feel sick.
I'm also wondering if anyone has any thoughts on essential oils?
