Just moved to the Ramstein - Kaiserslautern area!

Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself to any ladies that also live in the area! :)

We just got in yesterday and I'm pretty overwhelmed by all of the change but I'm sure once we find a place, things will be easier.

My husband is being stationed at Meisau, and we're still trying to decide the best area to live - any recommendations?

I have a three year old daughter, and pregnant with another girl due on Christmas day! :) (I also was wondering about the birthing experience here. I would love to have a homebirth but from what I've read - it looks like that won't be do-able with tricare, so I'm thinking water birth or birthing at a center would be an easier route? Anyone given birth here naturally?)

Also! Maybe this is a naive question, but where am I able to find raw milk/grass-fed meats? Any market/butcher around town? Or will I need to find a farm?

Thank you so so much for anyone able to answer these!!!

Hey there! We're moving to the area over labor day weekend. I would love to do a homebirth as well. I am familiar with Leah at Nurturing Passage Doula (see website), but I think she only attends at hospitals. We would need to find a midwife to attend at home. If only I could bring one from here in Vegas! Anyway, I have a 13 month old son and due in March. Are you in TLF now? Good luck! We may be seeing you soon.

Hi! Welcome to the KMCC! I just replied to my post looking for other mothering moms in the area :) We live in about 3 miles from Ramstein AB. I can't help with the info on the grass fed meat of raw milk, sorry! German hospitals are very supportive of natural birth... have you talked to tricare about going to standard and looking for a homebirth midwife? There may be birth houses as well. I'm sorry I'm not much help but if you have any questions, or if anyone would like to meet up, let me know!

Hey ladies. I know that these posts are a few months old, but I was hoping I could learn from your experiences. We are moving to Ramstein May 28, and I am hoping for a home birth as well. Did you have any luck with that? I am due October 19 with baby 4 and really want to go as natural as possible. I had 2 csections and a successful VBAC with our third. So, I'm not looking for a military doctor to try to convince me of my need for another csection. I've already been told from my doctor here, the one who encouraged and delivered baby 3 naturally, that another VBAC should not be a problem. However, I've heard that military docs aren't all for that. Any info on that? Really hoping to find some info on giving birth in Germany! Thanks for any help you may be able to give smile.gif

Hi Krogers,

I don't live in your area but my first recommendation is find a birth center in your area ("Geburtshaus"). You can go there on a tour and try to ask the midwives for tips (OB, midwife..) for homebirth. It is best if you have someone who speaks German with you because the average person here is not so good in English.  I know that there are OBs who are on call for homebirths and midwives that specialize in homebirth.

What I personally did is get a "Beleghebamme" (accompanying midwife is the best translation). In hospitals usually the midwife on duty is going to help you with the birth, you have the option of bringing your own midwife (called Beleghebamme) that you get to know personally before the birth. Under regular insurance it costs around 250€.

If you have other questions, just PM me..
