I live in a traditional brick house in a borough with .25 acres of land. I'm not looking to move but I am looking for ways to become more self-sustainable in my present location. There's a house that I drive by on a regular basis that appears to have a solar wind turbine that is helical in shape and is maybe 25 feet high. They are not in the borough so I'm sure that there aren't zoning regs against it but I would love to have something similar.
In my brief (re: whatever internet time I can fit in while nursing a 10 week old and chasing a 3 year old) research, it looks like some companies are designing what they call micro helical turbines for residential use. I can't seem to find any place to actually purchase or install such a thing but we have a back room with a flat roof that I think would be perfect for a couple turbines.
Anyone have experience/seen such things?
