August 13th Weekly Chat Thread!

We're halfway through August now! Holy cow! My due date was yesterday, so now I'm just on the "waiting for baby" train. I had contractions for two hours on Saturday and four hours yesterday, so I'm slowly getting to the "come on already" stage. I have an acupuncture appointment today at 11am, so maybe we can get this ball rolling. My partner's family is known for their inability to make a decision, so I'm guessing this baby is just gonna take after them. :)

Good luck to all of the mamas laboring and birthing right now! I hope you all have easy labors!

Congrats to all the mamas that had babies over the last few days!!

Sallyrae, I am sending you good labor thoughts today and hope that your acupuncture appointment is productive!

AFM, nothing much to report! We had a good, productive weekend and tested out the birth pool, made and hung curtains in the baby's room, and did some freezer cooking.  I have a cranio-sacral massage appointment this afternoon that I've really been looking forward to, and am taking a breastfeeding class this Wednesday and have an appointment with the woman who will be doing my placenta encapsulation.  Lots to look forward to!

Well today is my due date.  Contactions woke me up this morning.  They were actually pretty uncomfortable and pretty regular.  I decided to get up and eat something incase we were headed towards labor.  Of course after being up for abot 30 min, they petered out.  Now I'm having an occasional one, milder than this morning but stronger than the ones previous to today.  So I haven't given up on today just yet.

Aww, I am just so happy and excited for all of you mamas who have had your babies! praying.gif lots of rest and sweet moments for the babymoon!

Joy, best wishes for your induction today!

Kristy and Sally, hoping your babies decide it is time soon.

Ruby: Cranio-sacral massage? Gosh, I am envious, sounds delightful.... enjoy!

I am 40 weeks this week too. happytears.gif Can't even believe it really. I am so excited to meet this baby. Hope it is anyday now, but haven't had a whole bunch of cntx, so I am a bit worried.

Midwives started me on homeopathic labor prep and I hope that leads somewhere!

So exciting that we have so many new babies on the welcome thread!

Sallyhope the acupuncture sets things in action!

Lakeruby, sounds like a great week, hope it all goes well! Sounds like you had a great weekend.

Kristy, due date buddies we are! But you are ahead of me in terms of having contractions. Hope you meet the baby soon!

Congratulations Poppylove, hope that the homeopathic prep works for you.

Afm, 40 weeks today!! We went for a long walk this morning and then did some shopping to stock up. I'm having cramps and low back pain, but I don't think any of these feelings are actually contractions. They just don't seem intense at all. Suddenly today our families start freaking out if we can't pick up the phone and they think we are secretly having the baby without telling them. I wish!

Happy EDD andaluza! I hope you're feeling good and baby is ready any time now. Can't wait to meet your little one. :)

I just wanted to thank everyone again for the awesome words of support for Lyle and I during his first week. It was rough, I think we are out of the woods and we had a good doc visit. I'm really looking forward to establishing a more natural nursing relationship with him. His jaundice looked so good today they didn't even do a blood draw to check his levels.

Hooray for this week's due dates (I have no idea how to phrase that)!  I'm so excited to follow this thread and see babies pop up!

Sally - that's cool that you are starting to have contractions. Hopefully you're opening up, and shortening your active labor :)

Lakeruby - I was out walking the dog the other day, and saw a dog that looked like your avatar, and my brain though, oh hey, there's Lakeruby! Oh whoops... probably not! What did you put in your freezer? My goal was 5 freezer meals. I put away one.

Kristi &  Poppy- good luck! positive labor vibes!

Andaluza - I hear you on picking up the phone for family. They start getting all twitchy when they don't get updates.

Boots - so glad Lyle is doing better, and hopefully your stress level is going down and you can enjoy your babymoon. When's your next doc appt?

Penny - I'm thinking continued low BP thoughts for you! How many more days before your next appt?

I was wondering why LilyTiger hadn't posted here, and saw on the baby pictures thread that her little one arrived. Adorable!

AFM - we're 8 days old here. Miriam is a little doll and eats and sleeps and snuggles all day. She's an incredibly easy, happy baby which is a relief as she is our 3rd! My DS (2 years) is driving me nuts, though. He is taking forever to go to bed at night, waking frequently, and staying awake for over an hour, throwing temper tantrums, and generally depriving me of sleep. You'd think the newborn would be doing that, but no! She just likes to snuggle and nurse all night. My DH is on paternity leave until the 22nd, so it is great having a good deal of help with the kids. I'm not quite sure how I am going to handle everything when he goes back to work... I am a little scared!

I'm healing ok. I think I popped a stitch last Wednesday by sitting funny, and it has hurt a good bit. I have been better about sitting in a way that doesn't aggravate it, so hopefully it finishes healing soon. I am totally enjoying not peeing myself when I sneeze, and being able to sleep on my stomach! I just started that a day or two or so... at first I couldn't because my boobs were so sore and engorged.

We have a dr's appt tomorrow for Miriam - a quick check in, but we also have to repeat her PKU test, as the results came back as "unsatisfactory" which, as I understand it, means something wasn't done right with the test, so has to be redone. AI was freaking out when the nurse called me on Sunday about this, as I wasn't sure if it was a lab error, or an abnormal result.

I'm bummed the Olympics are over! I was enjoying watching them. I wish there were more replays! Anyone else watch a lot of the Olympics?

Congratulations all around.  :)  I'll try to catch up with the community this week.  First up, checking out all the baby pics!

I'm finishing up 3 days of early labor, and starting to feel very discouraged. greensad.gif

sarahdb - It's probably not what you want to hear, but what you're experiencing is totally normal. I had two days of contractions and they didn't return today - though I fully expected them to. My acupuncture appointment obviously didn't start anything this afternoon and while I've been super sore and unable to walk correctly (I feel like I've been riding a horse for about 3 months), I haven't had many contractions. I really hope that your body is able to "kick it into high gear" sooner rather than later. I found myself taunting my belly yesterday by saying "really? is that all you've got? c'mon - give me some real pain here." LOL. I'm sure I'll regret those statements once my labor really kicks in. :) Either way, I'm here with you and will probably get frustrated the next time my body decides to start contractions and then randomly stop.

I've been lurking ever since I joined the group because I just haven't had much to add, but I'd love some positive thoughts...I'm not due until 8/31, but I've felt this whole PG that I was going to go early, a hunch that got so strong over this past weekend that I insisted we hire the babysitter for the full day tomorrow (DH's day off) so we could finish getting the house ready for our HB.  And then this morning, DH's father was found dead.  DH jumped on the first plane to FL with no confirmed return date (probably won't stay longer than a week, but we don't even know how FIL died, much less have any funeral arrangements made, etc.)...  I hate that I can't be there for him, and didn't want to let on how worried I am that I'll go into labor while he's gone - I could handle giving birth on my own, but I can't clean this house without his help!!  orngtongue.gif  Don't mean to bring the whole thread down, but can I hand off the baby dust in my gut to someone else on here, and get some lovely "sit still, baby" energy?

Congrats to all the new mommas!  I'm jealous that you're done! as much as I'm hoping to make it to my due date.

thursday2 - I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. I was feeling the exact same way on Saturday. My partner's good friend died of a heroin overdose and while I wanted my babe to come on time, we really needed a few days to process and grieve. I'll gladly take that baby dust from you right now and I actually think I'm having "real" labor contractions as I write this. So....I hope you get the time that you need to prepare and grieve the death of your father-in-law. I'm so incredibly sorry that you are going through this right now. I'm sending you a big hug.

I just wanted to post real quick that I"m pretty sure this is the real thing! I've been having contractions every 3 minutes, lasting 40 seconds since about 5 am. Apparently I'm destined for a quick turnaround in the contraction department. :-) I'm quickly learning what can and cannot be accomplished in three minutes.

I hope there are more mamas out there that will mee their babes today! I'll keep you posted!

I'm very, very sorry for your loss and the worry you're feeling with being without DH.

Yay Sallyrae17!  Sending you lots of good baby vibes.

Boots - Can I just gush a little bit about how cute Lyle is? Sooo adorable and I'm glad to hear his jaundice is improving.

Penny - lots of low bp vibes for you!

As for me, I've had a hectic week.  Last Monday seemed to be my only normal day.  Last Tuesday I got an ambulance ride and an ER trip because I almost passed out at lunch while I was at work.  Conclusion was low blood sugar with slightly elevated blood pressure.  Wednesday at my follow up with the midwife I had elevated bp again and was sent to the hospital for a NST.  Nothing conclusive and was put on bed-rest and told to come back Thursday for another NST, urine collection and labs.  Luckily the labs and urine came back clear but bp was even higher,  So bed-rest for Friday and the weekend.  Yesterday at my midwife I had the highest readings yet (155/104 my normal -> 123/65) and was sent for another NST and full lab work up and now full bed-rest until Wednesday.  I'm worried and upset and holding on to the fact that they baby is passing the NST's with flying colors.  I just don't know how I'm going to handle all this bed-rest since after Wednesday I only have one vacation day left and I can't work from home.  I guess I'll start my maternity leave and FMLA and hope this baby doesn't decide to stay for another 3 weeks.

Sorry to rant a bit. Let's see some more cute and healthy babies!

Congratulations!  I'm sorry birth didn't go as expected.  My first was a hospital birth where interventions led to me requesting and receiving an epidural.  My next birth, knowing what I learned the last time, was very healing.  Hoping you're enjoying your snuggles and that you're able to process through your birth.

((hugs)) as you work through this change.  That must have been so scary!

Great news, Boots! I'm so happy to hear that things are going smoother and Lyle is doing well!

MamaChickadee, sounds like a wonderful baby! Sorry about your ds acting up, but at least your husband is there for some support for now. I miss the olympics, too, as a way to wind down at the end of the day. I'm a little worried that with dh gone most days now (so better focus on work for me during the day), without a night ritual like that, being now "overdue" and waiting for my body to do anything is going to make me really restless at night. Good time to start practicing more explicitly to my hypnosis and relaxation tracks, I suppose.

Keuriweo, so glad to hear that you have your baby Nina (I babysat a girl named Nina when I was in grad school and she was a brilliant model child). I'm sorry that the induction led to a few more meds than you wanted. I am sure you made the best choices for your body and how you were feeling and I hope you don't beat yourself up over it. I agree with the sentiment that it's important to bond with your baby no matter what kind of birth you end up having.

Thursday, I'm so sorry to hear about your father-in-law and the unexpected departure of your dh. You can give those labor vibes to me and I'll hand over to you my quiet uterus :)

Yeah, Sally! I hope this is it!! Are you 2 days over now? I'm hoping I don't have to wait more than 7 days.

Afm, yesterday I cleaned out the freezer and we did a lot of shopping to stock up, also tying up odds and ends while out. I was pretty exhausted and stuffed after a late lunch. I rested for a while, then decided to bake a cake to celebrate the due date, and by the end my back was killing me. But I still went on to dust the house and then mop the floors after dh vacuumed, since he has some work duties to accomplish the next 3 days and won't be able to do much around the house. I think I was having bh and also back pain while doing that; in some ways I wanted to see if I could sense any rhyme or reason to the sensations, but it was mainly achy, so I'm doubtful that anything I experienced was near a real contraction. My back seems better after the night's sleep, but I'm going to focus on yoga for the next few days.

This afternoon dh and I are meeting the other pediatrician I decided to interview at the last moment, since they have lc on staff. Then the baby can come!

Can't wait to hear about some other new mamas, like NewMumJoy, I hope!!

ETA: gee, I take so long to type!

Redtree, sorry to learn about your bp and mandatory rest. Sending you some calm strength. It is wonderful to hear that your baby is doing so well.
