Had my 36 week appt with the midwife today, I'm 35w6d, and get this . . . she thinks the baby could come in the next couple of weeks!? I'm measuring 37cm, baby is low, and I'm 2-3cm dilated and my cervix is thinned down to just 1cm (60-70% effaced) and in mid-position. I know that dilation and effacement can mean absolutely nothing in terms of when the baby's coming, so I wonder if she's right? I don't want to get thinking that the baby could come soon and then lose my marbles when he comes at 42 weeks. She said after the check that we need to be prepared to have the baby in the "next week or two" and that she doesn't think it'll wait until due date. My next appt is in two weeks, but I think this was my first and only check . . . so now we just wait and see. Oh baby!
Had my GBS test today too, I was surprised that the cervical check was painless and the tiny GBS swab was pretty darn painful. Please let it be negative! I work so hard to maintain my gut flora and don't want to stress about whether to do the antibiotics!
Like lots of you ladies, I'm also feeling the need to clean, prepare, and organize but having a stronger, overriding need to sleep and chill. Made a huge batch of gnocchi yesterday to portion out and freeze - took forever and my feet were so tired after. The only thing that helps is doing the stretches from my Active Birth book.
Totally unrelated, I cut DH's hair (because a quick men's haircut costs $60 here!!!!!) and we'd been using his old clippers (for back and sides, I scissor the top ) that he bought 10 years ago for the equivalent of like $15 and they never really worked very well. They don't cut sharply, evenly or quickly, and they pull his hair if I'm not very, very careful. So we were cleaning our office and I discovered that we had about $200 worth of banking 'key points' which are basically cash back good at certain places - he didn't realize what they were so we'd been unknowingly collecting them for like 2 years. Anyway, I bought us a fantastic new pair of clippers with a chunk of the points today and can't wait to give him a fresh haircut this evening!! Spent the rest of the points on groceries to make freezer food for postpartum. It's the little things :)
Wendipauline, haven't seen you on here in a few days, hope that your air b&b people are long gone and that you're getting a chance to relax!
