Naps with a newborn and toddler

Thread Starter

I need some help or tips. I have a three week old son and a 26 month old daughter. Before my son was born, I would either lie with my daughter or rock her until she fell asleep. That usually took less than 20 minutes.

Naps are complete chaos now. So far it seems like my son is always waking up right when my daughter needs to go to sleep. I have tried to nurse him while lying with my daughter, but she has a hard time settling since I am so distracted. I tried nursing him before nap time in hopes that he would fall asleep and then I could concentrate on my daughter. I have put him in the swing while trying to rock my daughter, but he ends up crying and it interrupts nap time. If I let my daughter skip her nap, she is delirious by the time 5 o'clock rolls around.

Any tips or ideas? Does this get easier?

it does get easier, that's for sure smile.gif

i remember rocking with my little one and a new baby at the same time, have you tried that?

i hope some other members have some great tips for you. that seems like so long ago for me, so it really does pass, but it is certainly a challenging time when you are in it. hang in there!
