Calling all Crafters (and wanna-be crafters)!!! What are you making for you/baby??? - Page 2

Just starting to look at some projects.  For maternity wear, http://diymaternity.com is a great site.

I might finish a sweater I started for DS, but quickly realized he was growing faster than I was knitting, so by the time I finish it, it might fit the new babe.  I like to knit, but find the speed of sewing much more rewarding.  A friend sent me this link this morning: http://www.feathersflights.com/2012/08/baby-cardigan-onesie-tutorial.html  there are some other cute tutorials on the site too.  For boys!

My mom and I are making some stretchy skirts this week.  And some belly bands.

Cool, Scruffy!  I am thinking about morphing some blue jeans into maternity jeans this week!

So glad it is finally starting to feel like fall, the itch to knit is finally returning, I just can't knit int he summer :/ I really want to make this for the baby but doubt I will get to it. You may have to have an account on lionbrand.com to see the picture.

I also made these for my last and was considering making a new pair for the baby (so they could each have a pair for their memory box), they are pretty easy once I sit down and do it, but we will see.

I always have good intentions, but not enough time.

Sarah!!!! I just pinned that same blanket pattern (but crochet, not knitting) in the adult size for my own bed!!!  What a coincidence!!!

SO cute, Jodie! You should check Ravelry to see if they have a similar pattern for free before you buy!

Now that I've seen the baby, and got confirmation that I'm 12 weeks, I'm letting myself enjoy this pregnancy and plan ahead.  I found this and have just the perfect yarn for it!  I got it for free (yup! free yarn!  how yummy is that!??!!  at a fiber festival last week!!!

Bena- I am soo soo happy for you... I am glad baby is doing well and you have both made it out of the first trimester.  Also, I am glad about the free yarn!  The sweater is sooo cute.  I really have to practice my knitting so I can do things like that sweater.  Really adorable!

Thanks Jodie!
I think this sweater would be a perfect project for a beginner!  In fact, I specifically chose it because I haven`t knit in a year!!!!

withlittlelungs- Do you know how to crochet?  I learned crocheting first (at a very young age) and I, too, find knitting to be quite a challenge.  I think a lot of people find that their mind works best with what they learned first.  For me, crocheting always wins out.  I feel like I could do that while half asleep or even distracted by a two year old or movie.  Knitting, not so much.  It requires my full attention (which is a rarity)!

Yes I do. I think that is the problem. I have a few friends who are master knitters, but can't get the hang of crocheting. I taught myself to crochet, but I think I need someone to physically sit with me and teach me how to knit!

I completly agree! I learned to knit first, as a kid also, and I just don't "get" crochet!!!

Bena- I don't have access to a LYS (a super awesome one closed at the beginning of this year so the owner could focus on being mommy.) and I reallllyyy want to make that ADORABLE sweater you posted for my niece (And then one for my newb!) - but I am guessing she is wool sensitive as her parents both are and welllllll.....she lives in FL. ;) Do you (or anyone else!) know of a reliable cotton/blend/possibly even acrylic that would bloom out/whatever/meet the guage like the Lopi that is called for?

withlittlelungs- there are lots of tutorials on youtube- also a great site I think it is called knittinghelp ?? with instrucitonals.... Its possible you are trying to learn the "wrong hand" is the best way I can think of it. There are two ways to knit- one where your right hand does the work, one where your left does. I was "taught" how to knit with the right hand method (throwing I think they call it?) and it was a huge fail.  When I was in college, I found that there was another way where you work more with your left hand which was far more intuitve for me.  YMMV!

I was the same way! My MIL had to sit with me and teach me and i also used videos on the internet. You could check craigslist to see if there is someone who teaches knitting in your area.

I want to cut up one of my husband's shirts to make me a maternity shirt... hehe.

I also have some old lightweight sweaters I saved that I plan to cut up and make into some leggings. We're finding out the gender, so I'm waiting so I can embellish based on what baby is. My husband wasn't thrilled with the possibility of a baby boy having a ruffle on his butt....

I've knit some socks using some leftover sock yarn, but that's about it so far.
