I just can NOT get myself to sew anything lately! Not even a zig zag stitch around the edges of my single layer flannel wipes that are already cut! Gah! I want to get stuff done soon cause I know the huge belly later is not going to fit up to the table comfortably.
Part of it is that I really need to oil my machine and I always drag my feet with that.

Hoping I can get motivated tomorrow with dh out of the house all day and the boys on a Saturday "schedule" (read: games and cartoons).

i don't have a sewing machine anymore, so i'm hand sewing baby blankets, including a couple receiving blankets, a mobile (my favorite project), pillows and a curtain for her room. i just picked up a ton of fabric on sale today and am cutting out my patterns. love.gif

I just made a HUGE batch of baby bum balm - about 40 oz - and I thought I'd share my recipe, since it worked beautifully for DD.  I made a similar amount for her and sold about half of it at farmer's market, gave some away as shower gifts, etc.  We finally ran out of it this fall.  So I think a whole 40 oz batch should do the trick for twins from birth to potty training.  I dried a bunch of calendula flowers and comfrey this fall to infuse in the grapeseed oil for this (although I didn't get the comfrey dry enough and it molded, so I had to throw it out), but I didn't have any herbs on hand when I made DD's and it worked just fine.  The lanolin ups the price a fair bit (USP grade lanolin in bulk is about $15-$20/lb), so if you want you can find diaper cream recipes without it, but lanolin is really wonderful for healing - almost magical.  You can find all ingredients for this from soap supply sites, but I found the best prices for lanolin and zinc oxide on ebay.

8 oz. coconut oil

1.5 oz beeswax

8 oz grapeseed or olive oil (optionally infused with calendula and comfrey)

16 oz lanolin

16 oz zinc oxide

2 tsp. pure vitamin E oil

60 drops lavender essential oil (optional)

Woah, I had no idea lanolin was that cheap. A pound would last us forever!

I'm not totally sure that the stuff you can get in bulk like that is food grade, so I've hesitated to use it on my nipples when nursing.  They say it's USP grade which is what Lansinoh says too, but it's marketed for cosmetics and soap making.  It's probably fine for nursing, but our hospital gives nursing mothers a tube of Lansinoh to take home, and I never used it all up.

Awesome! Thanks for posting. One of my things to do is make butt balm and now I have a recipe! I have some almond oil that I infused with calendula... and I might do chamomile in grapeseed or something.

DH just got a year-end bonus and ordered me the serger I've been wanting for years. I'm super excited to get it and finish up the cloth wipes plus repair a couple of diapers, plus whatever other cool projects I can think to do with it. Yay!!!

some completed sewing projects. it took me forever to do these by hand. i really miss my sewing machine.

minky receiving blankets and some pillows.

baby girl has a purple & grey cloud theme room. i'm almost finished with her mobile and bunting, as well as her changing pad covers and curtains.

still need to make some more plush rattle toys and some little lavender sachets.

my hands get super sweaty now, so my motivation to sew has been not so good.

oh and this blanket has the little loops to attach it to the carseat.. don't know how much i really need that, don't usually use the bucket seat out of the car much, but its going to be cold and i know i won't have time to make things post-baby

All I have made for baby is 30 cloth wipes.  I don't feel like I really need to make anything else, but that cream seems nice!  Do you know if it will work with cloth diapers?

We used diaper liners with our cloth diapers until about 10 months (when DD got to wiggly to keep them in place long enough to get the diaper on).  After that we were still using the cream at night, and it definitely stained the diapers, but didn't affect the performance significantly.  Theoretically the lanolin and beeswax could build up enough to affect absorbancy, but we never had problems.  We use cotton fitteds with wool covers.  I don't know if it would affect the performance of fleece pocket diapers or not.

Kellybeth - love the purple-grey cloud theme!  I'm impressed you did all that without a sewing machine.  I would never have the patience.

etsdtm99 - Nice fabric choices!

More sleep sacks!  These will be our "coming home" outfits.  The grey and green are cashmere, the pink is from a really nice soft merino sweater I found that had those cute embroidered flowers on the front, the white is lambswool/angora blend.  I'm trying to avoid being too "match-y" with the twins, but I thought it would be fun to have one sort-of-matching outfit.  My inspiration for the pixie bonnets is from this etsy shop - she makes some really cool wool wear, but the kitty ears are my own addition.  I love animal ears on baby hats love.gif

great idea I just came across for making your own baby k'tan style wrap: http://schamelot.blogspot.com/2012/05/no-sew-baby-ktan-wrap-style-carrier.html?m=1
I already bought athletic mesh fabric to make a breathable summer version from these instructions: http://www.mothering.com/community/t/1055795/baby-ktan-pattern or else I would be raiding DH's t-shirt shelf as we speak smile.gif

some other baby projects i've finally finished. curtains with a close up of the pretty fabric, and a star garland that got super tangled and my husband had to unknot for me. still don't know how to get the mobile to hang above the crib, i can't lift my arms for that long so it will have to wait.
