Midwife and Hospital in Alexandria area?

Hi ladies,

I am new to mothering.com and new to NoVa.  I have a 17 month old daughter and just found out that I am pregnant again (yay!), due at the end of April.  I have been frantically searching online for a good midwife in the area and a natural birth-friendly hospital to deliver in.  I ended up with a c-section last time so I'll be trying for a VBAC this time around, but it is really hard to find good info online.  Because of the traffic situation I would like to stay fairly close to home, which means Alexandria/Arlington/DC area (I live in the Del Ray area, WAY inside the beltway).  Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

Your best option is the GW Midwives, led by Whitney Pinger. They are extremely committed to VBAC and natural birth and have the stats to prove it. They have birth pools, which is a huge bonus. I had my VBAC in the water there. I'm also a doula and their births are the best hospital births to attend! Their email address is on their page (just google it) and that's how you become a patient.

Thanks so much!  I actually did a ton of research and decided on Wisdom last week.  I got accepted for their caseload and really appreciate the confirmation that this was the right choice :)

I am so glad to hear that! I am the co-leader of ICAN of Nova. You should come to our next meeting. It's Sept. 22 at 10 am at the Springfield Library. There are always a few Wisdom mamas there.
