Looking for a Volunteer Doula in the Arlington, Mt. Vernon, Camano Island area

I'm searching for a volunteer doula for a good friend of mine who is due in January. Anyone willing to provide doula services for no cost around the Arlington, Mt. Vernon, Camano Island area?

As a certified doula myself, I realize the importance of doulas and also that not every family can afford one. However, I don't believe that a mother's financial situation should limit her access to quality and professional care.

I would love to be her doula myself, but alas, she now lives too far away.

If anyone is willing and able to volunteer their doula services, not only would you be racking up some good karma, but you'd get the chance to meet an amazing family. Thanks!

check dona.org

doulas that have not reached certification (i think they still need 6? births) will sometimes do free and low cost births

Done. Thanks for the reply. I know that there are more birth doula certifying agencies than DONA, so that's why I'm reaching out on Mothering. I know there have got to be a great group of doulas up there!

Wonder if you could contact the Mount Vernon Birth Center.  Talk to Kaylie (front desk gal).  She is the most helpful out of the group in front.

I know a couple doulas in the area there.  I will send a couple emails and see if they are up for it as well.  When is she due?

Hey, thanks, GoldenWillow.

She's due the end of January 2013.

Did you have any luck with the Mount Vernon Birth Center?  My 2 friends that are current doulas have sent out the "word" but are both unavailable in January.

Hey, GoldenWillow!

I gave the info to my girlfriend so that she can decide and follow up when she's ready. I think she's got a full plate about now, but at least she's got the resources to investigate when she can.

Thanks so much for spreading the word about her need for a birth doula. It seems that we birth professionals like to take care of eachother, even so far away. To me, that's really amazing. Thanks again!
