Woven Wrap Guide

Thread Starter

I'm looking into purchasing my first woven wrap and I'm starting to realize that there are A LOT more options out there than I previously thought. I'd love if we could use this thread to post about all the different woven wrap "brands" we know about.  I thought each post could have a description of a woven wrap brand, style and etc., with a description & links if you are able.  Feel free to correct or add to posts. Thanks for playing. winky.gif

Didymos

Didymos wraps are the first wrap I've seen and the seem to have been on the market for quite a long time. They are a German brand sling and are very soft and quite popular. They come in a lot of colors and different weight fabric. Retails for about $200, high resale value.

Girasol

Girasol is a German company of imports from Guatemala, including woven wrap carriers. Their carriers frequently have a striped pattern, which is said to help wrap the sling. The are also quite popular and soft. Retails for around $135, high resale value.

I have an Ellaroo. It is a sturdy woven wrap and can be used up to 35 lbs. it is nice and sturdy while also soft and flexible as it is broken in. I use it for front and back carries and it is long enough and comfortable. I use the Wrapyourbaby.com website and videos by Diana that are linked on that website. She is fantastic! I love my wrap and so does my little one. I also have a ring sling from sleepingbabyproductions.net. She is also fabulous. Great prices and customized options. She sends a safety and how to DVD with your purchase.

Thanks so much for sharing this!

I would suggest a Gira or Vatania.  These wraps are generally thin and take little breaking in.  If you can access a FSOT site, you could find one used.  They are not necessarily cheaper but have been broken in.  If the mama is willing, she may even give you tips on using it.

I'm thinking of getting the ellaroo or girasol for the newest one. I loved the sleepy baby (like a moby) before but don't want quite as much stretch that the sleepy offered. Was also looking at the girasol and that has strong possibilities. I also found a baby wrap "bag" to put things in but it was based in the UK and shipping was insane so I don't want to do that.

I have an ellaroo, and just a note, the size *does* matter. I let the store I bought mine from convince me that it didn't, even though I had researched enough to know I needed a medium. I have an XL. I still love it, but the extra length drives me absolutely up the wall.

related note - has anyone ever cut their ellaroo? I haven't been brave enough, plus I sort of like the fringes. I live in an area where you almost can't GIVE away baby gear, and I'm no good at this online selling thing, so I'm not as worried about what cutting it will do to resale value, just what it will do to the structure of the wrap (will it unravel?!). Would a serger be the best bet?

Also, even though the weight limit is 35lbs, I pretty much forgot about that and definitely wear my coming up on 40lbs kiddo without any feeling that the fabric is giving in the wrong way or any discomfort or anything. Anyone know what is going to happen if I put a 45lb kid in there?

I know with the ergo that 35 lbs or somewhere around there is the max but I also ignore it smile.gif I actually may be getting a woven wrap directly from Guatemala and I plan on using it with my 2 kid lets before baby 3 gets here. My kids aren't yet 45 lbs tho! Try it and keep us posted!
