Car seat recommendations

My spouse and I are researching car seats and I'd love to know your recommendations for a good convertible model. So far, I've seen a bunch of positive reviews online for the Safety First Complete Air and the Graco My Ride 65 (which are rated up to 50 and 65 pounds, respectively). The only concern we have about the Safety First is that one review noted it was a huge seat and thus might not fit into our compact car. Thanks, mamas (and papas)!

This thread from a little while ago had some great reviews.

It is on the previous page.

Thanks so much! We've been pretty last-minute on the whole carseat thing because we normally travel to and from work by bike. This is our firstborn-to-be and none of our friends have little children, so we're pretty clueless!

I didnt read the other thread but i love my evenflo triumph advance convertible seat. i think they have a new version, but you dont have to re thread the straps so that is wonderful for a growing infant/toddler!  i also love love love our Radian! but they are very tall so if you have a smaller car it would be hard to have this rear facing!  Another option is the truefit by the the first years.  this seat si great because when baby is small and rear facing you can take off the top portion of the seat so it takes up less room while rear facing.  there is also a really nice cushy insert for tiny babies!!

You should post your car type to the Family Safety board.

If you don't want an infant carrier to start, then I recommend the Radian/Dino models. They are really much more comfortable for long term rear-facing than the myride 65. My three year old can still comfortably rear-face in it. And it takes up less room. Yes, the shell is higher but we can still fit it in both our VW beetle and the our Prius.

I like my Graco infant carrier, its pretty simple to use and has a 5 point latch system that's easy to get out of the base.  The only flaw is that my baby is in the 96% for height, so she's waaay too long for it but not really heavy enough to be turned around and into a bigger seat.   Costco recently had a similar one in pink and black, so if I was buying a new one, I'd get that.  This LO should be here after she's reached the 20 pound line and moved to a simple forward facing seat.  Although at the rate that everyone is threatening to extend the carseat rules, she'll be 16 and learning to drive from a backwards facing booster seat still!

heh, I like your snarkiness :)

We have to buy an infant seat too, I like the idea of a convertable model, but we have ds' forward/backward model so we don't need one.

DD has a Britax Marathon. I have an SUV and it fits well, but a friend has the same seat and it fits into her Prius. All of the Britax seats are well rated for safety. My seat has a 40lb limit RF and 70 FF. I got a great deal on Albeebaby.com
