I just bought a pound of loose leaf RRL- Frontier brand.
Do you ladies know if it's okay to drink cold? As in brew it hot, and then refrigerate it and drink it cold?
Also, does anyone have any tips or suggestions for brewing it? I've never made tea from loose leaves before!
Yep! That's what I do every day (drink it cold). Here's my routine:
Before bed I take a quart-size mason jar and add 1/4 C RRL, 1/2 C nettles, and sometimes 1/4 C alfalfa, all loose leaf, all packed down. Then I fill the jar with boiling water and just prop a lid on top (don't screw it on tightly).
I let it steep overnight, and the next morning I take a fine-mesh sieve, set it over a funnel that is placed in another quart-size mason jar, and strain the liquid into the second jar, pressing the leaves with a spoon to extract all the liquid. I top off the tea with water until the jar is full, and then I dilute it half-strength all day long. So I fill a glass half with the tea, half with water or seltzer. I end up drinking 2 quarts per day this way. I love it cold! WIth a squeeze of lemon - so refreshing.
