Always in a bad positon for ultrasound? « Back to Group Discussions

This is my second pregnancy but since I planned a HB the first time around we didn't do any ultrasounds.  When I went in for the 12-week scan this time around the technician had an awful time trying to get the measurements she needed because 'the baby was in a bad position'.  I just came back from my 20-week scan which I was really looking forward to.  You guessed it - baby was in a bad position again.  The technician said that everything is fine and the baby is developing normally, but I just don't have one of those nice ultrasound photos that all you ladies have been posting.  Oh well.  So.....now I'm worried that this baby will try to be born sideways or something.  As if I didn't have enough things to worry about.  Thanks for listening.  :)

What an unhelpful thing to say!  As if the baby can be in a "bad position!"  Unless it has a foot in your ribs in the middle of the night. :)  My friend had a great mantra, "My baby will be born in the perfect way, at the perfect time."

that was not very nice! I think ultrasound techs and everyone else dealing closely with pregnant people need to be quite a bit nicer as we have the possibility of doing some damage to them for making us mad! tee hee!

Ultrasounds are looking for a specific set of measurements.

Imagine i asked you to measure my bra size by looking at me through the bottom of a glass bathtub i was bathing in....  I might be in the PERFECT position for getting in and out of the bath, but not a bit of boob on show for you to "measure".

Don't worry.  The tech's failure is not your baby's, they move all the time and babies are programmed to get into the best position they can for birth.  They are NOT programmed to do the same to pose for the u/s tech - evolution hasn't caught onto the wand as much as it has the inside of a mama's pelvis :D

I've also had this problem... i joke saying my little guy is just as stubborn as me! 5 ultrasounds later we have all the measurments and everyting looks good!!!
